Sgt. Hugh Barry responded to a 911 call about an emotionally disturbed person in The Bronx just after 6 p.m., when a neighbor complained that a woman was acting in an irrational manner, according to the NYPD.

About 10 minutes later, Barry entered the apartment to investigate and found Danner armed with a pair a scissors, according to cops. The sergeant convinced Danner to put the scissors down, but she then approached the officer and grabbed a baseball bat, police said.

The sergeant fired two shots from his revolver as Danner attempted to strike him with the baseball bat, police said. She was struck in the torso and transported to Jacobi Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.

The officer is supposed to run away from her until her oxygen tank goes dry before he can even begin to reason with her and talk it out. Then after talking it out, he can throw the cuffs at her and hopefully convince her to put them on herself.


Everyone holding a baseball bat and coming in your direction must be given a chance to put the bat down and handcuff themselves.

Unfortunately that's not the way it works. Anyone of any age can be a threat and can kill someone. I'm not saying I welcome these outcomes, but these outcomes should be expected. Ultimately, it's the fault of the woman for putting herself in that situation.

At the rate you're going though with these cases, you're going to start campaigning for the disarmament of the police, and that is a very bad idea.
