Default I don't understand why people overrate undersized chuckers

In this case Dennis Smith Junior, a lot of Mavs fans legit think he is some kind of bonafide star in waiting.

I could name Terry Rozier, Eric Bledsoe, Kemba Walker etc etc.

These guys never pan out as winners.

Undersized, low bball iq, comboguards are very difficult to build around. The best of the comboguards is Allen Iverson, then Westbrook, then Derrick Rose. The busts are just so many more, Marbury, Francis and many more.

If you want to bet on an undersize comboguard, then they basically need to become Allen Iverson to win.

we have 2 different meanings of the word obviously.Making the shots doesnt mean anything.

    Kobe is a chucker
    Curry is a chucker
Big Wiggle is even a chucker

Harden is not a chucker (edit meh...he's a bit of a chuck)
    LeBron is not a chucker
    Durant is not a chucker

Curry is a good example of how a comboguard should play.

Mainly off ball, running around screens, and acting as a secondary ball handler in a free flowing offense. Tony Parker is another example.

What you absolutely can't have is your comboguard bring the ball up, then pnr, then drive senselessly into the paint. That shit just breeds resentment among teammates.

A good deal more scoring guards have been winners than people who were mostly playmakers.

A lot more Tony Parker, Kyries, and Jojo whites win rings than Steve nashs or John stocktons.

The kinda teams that win aren’t generally the kind to be built around a playmaker who isn’t also a takeover scorer.

Scoring combo guards have generally been pretty successful if you look at title teams which it seems is all we are calling success.
Jordan, Bird, Duncan, Shaq, Kobe, Pierce/Garnett, Dr. J/Moses, Dirk, Wade

That's most of the rings since 1980, won by non-combo guards...

So "playmakers" in general win less rings than other types like pure scorers or bigs.. although Kobe/MJ/Bird/Wade were obviously playmakers, so maybe that goes along with your statement about combo-players

"Playmakers" are ultimately redundant (a normally inadequate substitute for ball movement), so it's harder to win with them

Didn't MJ get his shit pushed in three years straight by a combo guard?

It's not about being playmaker or not, short or tall(well obviously taller players have better chances, it's basketball after all)...It's about mindset and iq. If you have DSJ mindset, you have to be basically Kobe good to make it actually work in winning basketball. Tony Parker is also combo guard, but he has way different mentality and iq, he knows what works and what doesn't in winning basketball. Combo-guard doesn't mean it has to be this mindless scorer who has to break the other team by himself. Sometimes he has to, but there is also timing and feel for the game. If your team is in rhythm and all of a sudden u start iso chucking that's not good, if your team is in a hole and nothing seem to work, you can try to take the team on your back for few minutes to get them out of that hole and get back into the game.
Some of these players play that way well because "that's how star players supposed to play" instead of playing the way it makes you win, like you know Curry does for example.

Bj Armstrong, Dennis Johnson, Tony Parker, Fisher, Rondo, Mo Cheeks, Jason Terry/Kidd, Chalmers...to go along with Kenny Smith, Magic, Isiah, Curry, Kyrie, Gus Williams, Billups and Avery Johnson.

Thats 40 years of title winning point guards.

Not a lot of old school Stockton style points. Mostly either scorers, do it all guys who scored a lot, or spot up shooters.

Some old school points....but guys who could comfortably be a 1 or a 2 win the most.

Straight up Mark Jackson, John Stockton, Guy Rodgers style points who make plays and looks for his shot last just dont have the history of success the scoring points do. West was a scoring point. Oscar too. Walt Frazier. Cousy led the NBA in shot attempts though hes considered pass first. Jojo white who nobody remembers but won a final MVP through his scoring.

The facilitators just dont have the same track record. It feels like they should be more prone to win but it is what it is.
