Djokovic should have lost the second set. Was second best the entire set.

    Not the first half.

Had 3 straight love holds to start and Med deuce twice and 0-30 the other.

    Then it flipped.

    But Med is a puzzy.

Just like Tsits was at AO.

Because he certainly isn't moving like he was in the first set. I think it is more of a tiredness thing. He is older, has a lot of miles on the body, and now when an opponent doesn't roll over and extend points on him - it fatigues him.

There is a reason he has become more of a shot maker from the back. End points earlier and less fatigue on his older body.

Med is someone that can bring anyone to your knees or want to end points quicker...

watch Novak run this 3rd set now.

He has those weird bending, falling over tendencies..

I get the tactic. Extending the games. Because he is winning those longer rallies over Djok.

But when it gets tight, he needs to actually try to make shots. Dude actually played shots against Carlos.

Yeah, missing that aggression, that gunning mentality tonight.

Also its funny the longer rallies turned even cause Novak won what, 12 of the first 14 9+ shot rallies?

Dude is so soft. You can see it on his passing shots. Always goes cross court or at Novak, had so many DTl openings, especially on SP.

    Absolute AO flashback.

lopsided first set, 2nd set full of chances incl SP at 5-6, make an UE, lose tiebreak, lose in straights.

This guy just keeps winning. Is the competition that shit or is he still that good? Three in one year. When was the last time he did that?

He plays smarter now - but doesn't get enough credit for how he has refined his game. He has become a shot maker, and absolute destroyer on his shots.

He used to out fitness guys and win by keeping the ball in play. He is now making winners and forcing guys to make bad shots.

Definitely more beatable now than he was before, but it takes a particular type of player to do it to him. Just be a wall, extend rallies, and don't get disheartened if you keep doing the right thing and not getting results.

He just did it 2 years ago, when he lost in this exact matchup with the calendar slam at stake.

He looks to be aging way better than Rafa and Roger have. He's got a perfect head of hair for one.

I remember saying he's a shoo-in for 25+ titles and someone here said that was a stretch. At this rate, 30+ could happen. If he can remain competitive for another 4-5 seasons. That should do it.

Hes really really good but he wasnt special tonight... it was a repeat of the 2018 USO final and this years AO final.

Super vulnerable second set, opponent mugs chance after chance, then hes freed up and runs away in the 3rd.

Tsitsipas actually did better than Del Potro and Medvedev in the same circumstance.

Just a shame that Medvedev had to peak to take out the only worthy rival.

    **** Medvedev

I tuned in when Med was up 3-2 in the 2nd. He definitely had the momentum after I watched for about 5mins. Joker looked uncharacteristic and thought we'd see at least a 4 set match

    Great 2nd set and match.

Novak hitting the ball harder at times to shorten points doesn't mean that he can hit as hard or harder on a consistent basis than he used to.

Saying current Novak is better than previous versions is honestly disrespecting him. In 2011 for instance, Novak had one of the greatest years ever going a combined 10-1 against Federer and Nadal in their primes. Calling current Novak better is just weird. He used to be way more agile and way more durable. He was probably the fittest player on tour.

The current era is way weaker the the golden age of tennis Novak came up in. Especially prior to the past year when Alcaraz broke through.
