Re: The Tennis Discussion Thread
In the modern era of tennis, surfaces are homogenized. It was much harder to achieve a career Grand Slam (win all 4 majors) in the 90's and before that because the surfaces were so different and there were lots of specialists who excelled at just one surface.
I'm happy to say that Fed, Rafa and Novak are the GOATs of modern tennis and leave it at that.

Im Novaks biggest fan for now. Im hoping he gets to 20 before Nadal can get to 21. That would give Fed something to play for and we can have ourselves a live race to the goat tittle. Last man standing. Would be epic

Re: The Tennis Discussion Thread
Good day. I do badminton, but I know a lot about tennis. atp ranking is a weekly ranking of male tennis players that is used by the Association of Professional Tennis Players to track the achievements of athletes. Now the best tennis players are Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. I have been doing badminton for many years. Recently there have been events, in which there was a very interesting result. The most promising athlete, due to incorrectly selected Badminton shoes, had a failure and was unable to play the game normally.

Madrid, Masters 1000. Nadal should really win here after the Montecarlo debacle.
Medvedev’s chances on clay? His first match of the year there, thought about placing a bet against him, seems like easy money, him losing in the first or second match?

Fokina as underdog, definitely worth a try

Yeah, bookies’ game definitely on point here. Medvedev is barely a favourite.

Not all clay surfaces are the same. Madrid, even though it's his 'home' masters, has a speedy version of clay surface. I don't know much more other than the fact that's Rafa's least successful big clay tourney. He's still won a few there though, because he is king of clay he's far better at MC and Rome and obviously RG. I can see Tsitsipas beating him in the final, hell I could have saw Sinner beating him there (not anymore since he lost lol) and even Z.
He did smack this clay up and comer Alcaraz today... on the kid's birthday poor kid. At least he can say he got to play his idol on his bday.
It's just funny watching Med play on clay, he hates the surface with a passion. But he realizes he has to play so he can compete for #2.
For Madrid, these are the guys in their order of favorite to win:
Rafa, Thiem, Tsitsi, Z, Med, Rube-bweh (kills it in 500s but nothing more bigger than that so far), King Aslan

speedy version hehe
yea its definitely not a masters he "should" win.
in fact, he loses here more often than he wins.
clay is faster (less clay) and high altitude.

Re: The Tennis Discussion Thread
Sure he should win.
1) It’s clay.
2) There is no Djokovic.
3) Does he want Medvedev to be #2 ?

what does he "should win" mean?
He could win, but there is no reason to say he should, when RG is his biggest ambition.
This tournament is ultimately meaningless to him, while it isnt to anybody else.
Meanwhile, he doesnt like the altitude and bounce in Madrid.
Djokovic has nothing to do with this, and its absolutely irrelevant to him if he or Medvedev is #2.

Re: The Tennis Discussion Thread
Montecarlo, straight set loss to Rublev.
Barcelona W after coming through a grueling match vs Tsitsipas who had match points.
Madrid straight set loss to Zverev.
I understand we’ve been here before and masters are of little value to Rafa at this final stage of his career.
Still, the next gen & lost gen seem to finally be catching up and its about time, Nadal is what 35,36? Father time is undefeated.
I believe this year we wil see Nadal’s last victory lap at RG.
I predict he retires next year.
