Re: ESPN - Who is truly the greatest of all time? MJ or Brady
ESPN catering to a 12 year old or younger minded audience as usual
Way too many other legends of their sports dominated arguably as much or more than either of those two but yeah Its just those two thats the debate - and I gotta bridge I wanna sell you

Who else won 6 in the modern era?
Or dominated more than MJ? Don't make me post MJ's 91-93' stats versus shaq's 00-02'..cause you know I'll do it

He's won the championship half as many times
Despite team-hopping onto ready-made favorites
He has no case

So - was this a who's the goat athlete debate?
In all of human history? Wait no - of "all time" so even beyond written history.
Just in the past hundred years of recent recorded history - there are so many countless legends of their sports, basketball football, soccer, all of it.
I know you like to argue MJ as the greatest I have zero issue with that and I think you're a smart poster that knows the game even if you (as we all do) tend to dig in to your position - and again your position is fine as I agree MJ is a solid GOAT candidate. Strong a case as anyone so long as you favor the things he did and weight them heaviest.
But that's just it - that's just arbitrarily weighting his accolades and abilities as best. It is definitely arbitrary to say what is written on his resume is better than what is written on say, Babe Ruths resume or Wilt Chamberlains, or Bill Russells, or Jim Thorpes, or Wayne Gretzky, or a litany of other athletes of other sports disciplines or varieties.
And that's just recent history.
That's all I'll say. I have no issue with someone thinking MJ is GOAT. I just think it gets a bit funny trying to dig into it and act like other - CLEARLY great athletes are just not even comparable. Even using the term recent as a modifier is silly. So recency heavily weights to make one the best ever? Why? Isn't that also an arbitrary decision you or anyone could have just made up on the fly to favor their favorite athlete that happens to be of recent history? What about that word, ever? That word carries a weight to it. A timeless weight. "recent" is a blip on the radar of time - a drip in an ocean. An undefeated ancient roman athlete for all we know could be the clear cut GOAT athlete.
My 2 cents on GOAT athlete discussions

True. As if you can compare two different sports anyway. Even within football, is Brady really better at his position than Jerry Rice was at his?

ESPN is acting like a whole lot of humans throughout both history and prehistory don't exist
- uses the phrase "all-time" but only talks about the last 25 years

Flamma the GOAT candidate Gladiator of ancient Rome rolling in his gladitorial grave at DisnEySPN's narrative
Would manhandle MJ and Tom Brady
This dude literally ended human lives in close quarters hand wielded weapon combat for sport.
ESPN out here quoting a god damned America-Only sport... American Football isn't even Global isn't that one of the disses NBA fans come up with about prior NBA eras is that it wasn't yet international? Hellooooo neither is American football our "talent pool" is pretty much entirely limited to kids from America that have parents that don't care about head injuries.
Seriously - the older I get the more ridiculous GOAT conversations of any sort sound to me. Be it basketball or otherwise.

That's what I was saying before. How do you measure football players playing in different positions, even on different sides of the ball? I mean football more than many other team sports needs more clearly defined 'GOATs per position' because the quarterback is so different from the running back from the wide receiver from the defensive tackle and so on and so on....football has far more moving parts with wildly different responsibilities even if it could be argued that the quarterback's position is the most important.
