Literally every time someone posts a video of a travel online there a bunch of people arguing the gather step makes it not a travel.

It's maddening. For some, it honestly seems as though the "gather step" is now defined as "whatever you decide to do prior to the final two steps of your move".

Real life gather step? Yeah, that's fine. Gather step then two more steps prior to your final two steps? Yeah, dude was still just gathering.

    I honestly can't handle it.

That said, in the Pistons-Wizards instance, looks like it was just a blown call by an officiating team caught on their heels late in a double-digit game. Not really an acceptable excuse, but it is what it is.

The official NBA referee twitter just confirmed that this play is.....

    Not a travel......

The offensive player gathers with his right foot on the ground. He then takes two legal steps, before losing control of the ball. After regaining possession, a player is allowed to regain his pivot foot and pass or shoot prior to that foot returning to the ground. This is legal

The problem lies in the fact that the gather step was never well defined to begin with.

That Twitter account is a ****ing goldmine. You think missing that Beal call is an embarrassment, and then these clowns go way over the top by actually trying to defend it. They did something similar with the Harden double stepback, only to get overruled by an actual referee. Hilarious. No credibility whatsoever.
