Even IF you believe that ...

    Kobe is better.

Both as a two way player, leader, and competitor. Like, it’s not even close. KD needed to join a 73 win former champ and almost back to back champ to win his hollow rings.

Btw even as a scorer? No.

    As a starter?

    Kobe 1999 - 2016
    27 ppg on 45%

    Durant 2008 - Now
    27 ppg on 49%

Oh and Kobe was the focus of the defense for the vast majority of his career and played 9 years in a vastly more physical and slower paced league.

Very similar players so its a good comparison.. I would say its close to call and we have to see what KD does in the future to make a final determination..

As a scorer KD is better than Kobe because efficiency matters.. But Kobe was a better passer .. I would say both are about similar on defense but Kobe was a bit better on the ball and KD is better as a team defender because of his size.

I want to see KD on a team where the offense is geared around him. I hope he comes to NY and wins a title here.. That would put him top 10 on all lists.

Guys, I'm just talking about scoring. All these dudes getting their panties in a bunch and freaking out "Kobe's better overall, better defender, rangzzz"

Chill, it's just scoring. Durant > Kobe.

Better from midrange. Better at 3's. Better around the basket. Better at free throws.

I won't speculate on the post scoring side of things, but he is 6'11, and even if not true, he is better everywhere else, along with scoring more points on better efficiency.

    What are we missing?

Durant never had that until he got to the Warriors. He probably had it when OKC was stacked with him, Westbrook, Harden and Ibaka, but he certainly wasn't as good as he is now.

What you said would apply for the majority of ATG's. Just go through the top 10; Jordan, Kareem, Russell, Shaq, Duncan, Magic, Bird etc. all played on either the top team in the league, or at minimum, one of the 2-3 best.

I just completely disagree with your comparison. Yes, for their era, the Gasol/Bynum/Odom Lakers were one of the top 2 teams in the league, but that was mostly due to Kobe. You take him off those teams, they're a first round exit at best. You take Durant off the Warriors, they're contending for a championship.

Kobe had better capacity to go off for 40+, but I do believe Durant is equal overall as a scorer because Durant is THAT GOOD

Durant will be top 10 all-time not just because of ring count - it's because he'll age very well like MJ did, due to his goat shooting

People forget that MJ remained the scoring champion at 34 because he started relying heavily on his jumper - he made twice as many jumpers in 97' as curry and lebron's career high, with better efficiency than lebron's best season (see the stats in the previous post above)

So MJ relied on his jumper to remain the best, and Durant has the capacity to do that even more with his focus on the 3-point shot

    What?

Katie Durant played with two MVP caliber players in Oklahoma City, and another MVP and two - three other All-Stars in Golden State.

    Kobe played with Shaq in

    97: Bench
    98: Bench
    99: Starter
    00: Starter - Ring 23/6/5
    01: Starter - Ring 29/6/5
    02: Starter - Ring 25/6/6
    03: Starter - 30/7/6
    04: Starter - 24/6/5

8 years with Shaq. 6 as a starter. 3 chips. 12 years without Shaq. The hell you talking about man?!

Then after that he played with a near prime Chris Bosh but not quite level player as his second option. Stay hating.
