The REAL Losers in Free Agency
Houston Rockets
Tried to trade for Jimmy Butler. He did not want to be there and in one of his vlogs on YouTube, he even said he didn't like the heat in Houston (no pun intended). Cannot sign anyone because they are capped out. CP3's contract is one of the worst in the NBA. Only signed players they already had on their roster with no new additions.
Oklahoma City Thunder
The moment Kawhi called up PG, he ran to Presti and wanted out ASAP. PG has never been loyal and is one of the best PR guys in the NBA, e.g. telling the media what they want to hear. Russell Westbrook had these men as teammates: Ibaka, KD, Harden, PG13 and they are all gone. Traded a record number of picks and got back SGA in the process and an injury prone Danilo Gallinari (he is good, but never healthy). Presti is a "genius," but he could have had a dynasty. He drafted a dynasty, but a lot of silly moves got him to this point and he is now paying for it. He has to trade Westbrook.
Toronto Raptors
Yes, they won a title, but let's not pretend they would have beaten a healthy Warriors team. Fat Lowry is old. Marc Gasol is old. They are capped out and can't sign anyone. No one wants to play in Toronto because it's a different country.
Charlotte Hornets
Lost Kemba Walker for nothing, did not offer him the supermax. Signed and traded for "Scary" Terry Rozier. Do not have a future to speak of. Not a free agent destination. They will continue to be in the lottery for the foreseeable future. MJ and his front office need to draft better, period.
Golden State Warriors
Lost KD for nothing. Klay is out for the 2020 season and might not be the same off the ball. Sign and traded for D'Angelo Russell and gave him a 4-year max deal and he probably won't be there long-term. They can't sign anyone because of their insane cap situation. People called them getting D'Lo a smart move, but I don't think it was. Traded Iggy to Memphis because he told the truth about their medical staff. The Warriors dynasty is over. The west is too strong and they will never win another title.
Honorable Mention:
New York Knicks
Not really losers per se, but they did not get any top free agents, so they wasted all of that cap space on Julius Randle, Elfrid Payton, Bobby Portis, Reggie Bullock, etc, but I have to say the Knicks did not have a worse off-season than the other teams mentioned above, but the expectations was Zion, KD and Kyrie, not Randle and Payton.

Re: The REAL Losers in Free Agency
OKC didn't lose. They own everything the Clippers have until 2026 (besides 2 pick swaps) All they need is for one of those injury prone dudes to take a spill and they eatin' good.
The actual loser in free agency is the Lakers who got absolutely played by Kawhi Leonard. Massive L when the reports surfaced about him trying to collude for an entire week with Paul George while the Lakers were left with the impression of "being extremely confident" Now that's two california bred stars that avoided playing with lebron.
The fans won't realize how big a deal this is until they see how Danny Green plays in 2019.

Re: The REAL Losers in Free Agency
How are the Mavericks not on the list?
They traded Barnes to open up cap...weren't even a dumping ground to get assets by taking bad contracts...
And didn't even get better.
So far at least, nobody has had a worse free agency given the stakes...because the Mavs won't even have cap going forward with the contracts we have and Luka getting paid in a couple years.
Once again, a total disaster for Cuban.
Also, the Thunder were huge winners...they changed the future of a team that wasn't going to compete due to lack of shooting and flexibility...
They now have a future all-star pg and a ton of assets. If they flip Russ and Adams for neutral or positive value...and probably trade Gallo as well.
They are looking great for the future...huge win.

Re: The REAL Losers in Free Agency
If you were looking at all of Kawhi/Lakers reactions, you would think Lakers were the biggest losers in all this. People need to stop overreacting and relax! Lakers landed a top 5 player in AD. Let me repeat: Lakers landed a top 5 player to put next to LeBron. We are starting to put together a deep bench. I hope we can get Iguodala & Korver to wrap up free-agency for us.
You don't need a superteam to win once Durant left the Warriors. There is no superteam for hopefully a few years or longer. The whole field is wide open.

Re: The REAL Losers in Free Agency
Big win for OKC getting Shai and all those picks
Also, are teams like Sac, Pho, Ind, and Orl losers by default every year since they never get big FAs?

Re: The REAL Losers in Free Agency
Minnesota and Detroit are losers for now. They have teams built around stars so can’t tank but didn’t move the needle at all this fa. A Westbrook trade changes that obviously.

Re: The REAL Losers in Free Agency
Raps got victimized by Kawhi waiting game though you really can't blame the dude after giving you a championship but hey they're running out of good FA already.

What does it say about LeBron and the Lakers that Kawhi turned them down for the CLIPPERS?

Re: The REAL Losers in Free Agency
How did the Warriors lose, losing KD was inevitable but they got Russell on a tradeable contract and got off Iggy's contract. Yeah, losing the picks isn't great but their core is still intact they just need a solid wing like Covington and they'll be fine.

Re: The REAL Losers in Free Agency
Sacramento Kings are the clear biggest losers. Everyone turned them down, everyone. From Pat Beverley, to WCS, to the fact they couldnt work a deal for Steven Adams. Harrison Barnes read the situation and fleeced them silly too
Ariza at 15 mill, Joseph at 12 mill per season and Dedmon at 15 mill per season was a horrible way to spend their money too. A club going nowhere despite having the best young talent its had in years too
