Their first album is probably top 3 when it comes to debut albums of that genre.

How do you define best?

Overall I'd say Metallica.

Not my favourite, although I love their first 4, but they have the name, more iconic songs than any other Metal band, bigger than any other. They hit the mainstream with AJFA, which was still a very if not their heaviest album.

Maiden is 2nd for the same reasons.

Fav band is probably Slayer, but fav album is Sepultura's Arise.
Thrash and melodic death are my fav genres, spiced with some NWOBHM and whatever Maiden, Iced Earth(imo they're too thrashy for the power metal label) and Opeth are.

Justice is definitely a heavy album for Metallica. I’d argue it’s possibly their heaviest, either that or MoP. Kill ‘Em All is my favorite Metallica but it’s much more fun and upbeat, and not nearly as dark as those two.

My vote is for Black Sabbath. The first and still the best IMO.

Couldn't fathom eating some really good acid in 1970 and listening to their self titled song for the very first time. I probably would have freaked out called the police, but not able to answer why I'm calling.

Master of Puppets for sure. Cliff's ruthless fingerstyle added a meaty underbelly to the tone. Newstead's dead picking just didn't measure up. Also the songs on Master had more driving pulse. Battery, Disposable Heroes, Damage inc. very fast and dynamically intense songs. Or maybe I just recognize it as "way better" and I'm turning that into "heavier". The production on Justice sucked. Lars seemed to get oddly snare-happy. MoP is a far superior piece of work.

It's still a decent album, but comparing it to Master of Puppets is blasphemous to my ear. I would not hesitate to say MoP was their magnum opus. The Thing That Should Not Be is the only song I could imagine skipping... every other second of that album is just dope as ****.
