Default If you didnt like Kevin Garnetts footwork you dont like basketball.

You hear people talk like all he did was shoot 18 footers when for most of his career he had some of the most beautiful footwork* and faceup drives in the NBA. Yes his fadeaway was his go to....because it was virtually unblockable and he could always get it off. And many of them were beautiful too. Im not really here to argue anything or compare him to anyone...im just saying....guy had some smooth moves around the basket for a guy some people try to make out to be a poor around the basket player.

*with an occasional travel which is the case with literally 100% of players attempting to score in traffic after picking up the dribble.

He had good footwork but it wasnt great, iirc. He wasnt really efficient in his movements

Not relative to Tim Duncan or some of the centers but KG was a tall forward who played some 3. Has to move a bit more to get where he

    Poetry in motion.
As a big that plays rec, his ability to determine his pivot anchor based on the position of his defense is incredible.
The best analogy I can come up with ( a few beers deep) is it's the equivalent of skateboarding.
Skateboarding you ask, whats that got to do with basketball. Well imagine standing on a skateboard with your natural stance and doing a kick-flip down 10 stairs. You land the same way you started as its your preferred side, and what feels "natural."
No go do the same trick standing the opposite way, known in the skateboarding world as switch.
Garnetts footwork is the equivalent of being able to go both ways, ambidextrous pivot anchors at the drop of a hat based on the challenge.
Very impressive as it's initiative in real time.

Garnett was the best player in the league for a 2 to 3 year stretch... yet he never really gets discussed that much in that context. And as a result, he's easily the most underrated all time great from the 2000s.

If you truly want to appreciate Garnett's skills, just watch his defense. Savant on that end.

On offense he used his herky jerky movements incredibly efficiently both with his legs and his arms. They were always well synchronized with how he was moving on the court. Incredibly skilled player.

Kevin Garnett was never the best player in the world. He was never also never than Tim Duncan. Been a silly argument since early 2000s ISH. It's not numbers but playstyle and impact.

More like when you're 15 years old and desperately trying to pretend like you've ever seen that dude play.
