PLAYSTATION 5 confirmed launching next Holiday
https://www.wired.com/story/exclusive-playstation-5/
General Info
The official name is PlayStation 5.
Releasing Holidays 2020.
Ray tracing support is hardware-based.
New SSD will help boot times, loading times and streaming.
The controller now has adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, new speakers, USB Type-C.
Physical games for the console will use 100 GB optical disks.
Optical drive also acts as a 4k Blu-ray player.
Full disc and digital PS4 and PSVR (including the headset) native backwards compatibility. Confirmed back in April.
Additional Info
The dev kits (which were leaked) are actually real and developers have access to them.
A new modular approach to storing data. Finer grain access to data, as opposed to big blocks. Ex: Users might have the ability to install only Multiplayer components of the game.
Completely revamped UI.
The new controller will have a larger battery capacity and will be a bit heavier than Dualshock 4.
Haptic feedback for PS4 Pro's Dual Shock 4 could have been implemented, but was decided against.
Bluepoint studios (folks behind the Shadow of the Colossus remaster) are working on a "big" PS5 title.
The GPU has been used to power Machine learning.

Re: PLAYSTATION 5 confirmed launching next Holiday
so the L2-R2 triggers can be pressure resistant depending on the game
like racing titles with a L2 brake will be harder to pull than R2 accelerate etc
i wonder how battery life fluctuates with that

I'm usually the same way but my OG base 500gb did it's 5 year tour and due for a upgrade, i've been holding off on a Pro for awhile now. Especially with the 5 being backwards compatible and able to play both
If it releases around $500-600 i'll Day-1, anything over $700 nah

Re: PLAYSTATION 5 confirmed launching next Holiday
Looking at the specs and hardware Sony is jamming into this, i'd honestly be surpise if it's under $550-$600
I know Sony/MS take a hit on console sales, but the hardware in the PS5 compared to the PS4 is night and day. Compared to PS3-PS4 was, the PS5 is an actual generation leap.
The SSD replacing HDD alone will make loading times milliseconds, not just ingame but booting up, logging off, saving, uploading will all be snap of a finger. The only thing it'll be governed by is user internet speeds (cloud/streaming/ping)

I will wait. And wait. And wait.
I didn't even get an XBox One until last year, and that was just to play RDR2. I still mostly play my XBOX 360 and PS2.

Re: PLAYSTATION 5 confirmed launching next Holiday
Does anyone know if it'll be backwards compatible?
If not, I'll stick to the PS4 for a while longer. Hell, I still play PS3 from time to time, BF3 is not available on PS4

PS5 will play digital/hard disk PS4 titles, no word on PS1, 2, 3 titles though.

Re: PLAYSTATION 5 confirmed launching next Holiday
I'm wondering if I should wait and play Cyberpunk and TLOU 2 on PS5. It's inevitable that they'll release on PS5 with improvements.

Re: PLAYSTATION 5 confirmed launching next Holiday
we can say that many ps4 games will be compatible with ps5 and few will not
This time many sources claimed that the changes are as that many games will not support bcz of high frequency may be to play on ps5 we may have to leave some games behind .

No, it will not be able to play any ps1/2/3 titles, you dummy. Only the ones from the outgoing ps4 console.
