Immigrants moving to the U.S. and not assimilating
Into the culture or even learning basic English. What are your thoughts? I have been running across more and more people that have been here for 10+ years and still don

It’s stupid af
But I don’t think it’s common. I come from an immigrant family and most of them know English or at least are able to speak basic English. Same with most immigrants I have met

It's not just a US problem, it's worldwide. If you move to a country then assimilate because whatever your host country is doing different than the nation you are running from is probably the right and correct thing. Admittedly Mexicans do assimilate much better than African migrants, those from the ME and their children. If the US politicians were trying to fill up the US with those kind of people like in Europe, instead of latinos, I think we would see a full scale civil war.

I think it might be more prevalent in bordering states like California and Arizona. Maybe just due to their proximity and a feeling of entitlement. Maybe due to certain states' willingness to accommodate their lack of assimilation.
Do Mexicans that immigrate to northern/eastern states assimilate better?

Most immigrants I met(Mexicans and non Mexicans) at least try to communicate in English
So it might be a border thing

Multiple countries make you take an IELTS or TOEFL exam as part of obtaining a work visa. I think that should be done for the US.

At my age....I dont think id quickly(if ever) learn to speak spanish if you drop me in mexico in a place I can get by without learning it. People learn what they have to. Is there something they cant accomplish speaking spanish? I understand kids....but im talking fully formed adults. There must be 50 million people in America that speak spanish. Im not checking but I suspect America has more spanish speaking people than anywhere but Mexico and maaaaaaaaaybe Argentina?
With so many...they dont have the need. There are "little mexico" parts of town here in south carolina. Last time I was in Texas it all looked like little mexico(granted...I wasnt in the suburbs).
Someone who speaks spanish in California, Texas, or Florida? Hed never need to speak english really.
Its clearly for the best to learn....but you can get away with not learning fairly easily.
Some 40 year old gets here and spends his life a few hundred miles from mexico in a place with 3-4 million mexicans.....
I can see not learning.
