Obama said that some Democrats are listening too closely to liberal Twitter and progressive activists, specifically singling out issues like health care and immigration and, in what amounted to a stern warning to the 2020 field, bluntly said that voters are "less revolutionary than ... interested in improvement" and warned about turning off certain segments of the electorate by not being "rooted in reality."

"My one cautionary note is I think it is very important for all the candidates who are running at every level to pay some attention to where voters actually are," Obama said, specifically saying he doesn't think candidates should be "diluted into thinking that the resistance to certain approaches to things is simply because voters haven't heard a bold enough proposal."

For instance the stupid idea that there should ONLY be a publicly funded healthcare system (medicare for all) and NO private option. Sanders and Warren are firm on this and they are both wrong. You need to preserve the option of going with a private insurance, paying for it yourself. Wealthy people and upper middle class want this option. They will get better service. Doctors and hospitals want this option too. They will have certain clients which are more profitable.

This is the way it works in Germany, where I live, and everyone is fine with it. The public system works great. The private system is a luxury for those who are doing quite well.

But freaking Sanders and Warren want to eliminate private insurance all together. It is simply wrong-headed and too socialist.

The bigger question is why is this a job for the federal government? Why cannot each state implement policy on its own? That is how our union was designed to function. That will also produce less division and disharmony from state to state. Maybe instead of fighting with people in other states, we'll all spend more time on what's happening in our own states?

The biggest states are most blue anyway, so if they take up the initiative they can lead by example, and provide the greatest impact. If it proves to be the success they're predicting, other states will happily follow suit.

They won't do it that way largely because if it bankrupts their own states while providing negligible environmental return... they'll be butt hurt and embarrassed they ended up looking stupid while the 'the other side' has the last laugh. By federalizing it, everyone is essentially tied together at the wrists and if one person fails, everyone fails. That's basically the core tenet of socialism.

That's like, literally what all this politics shit comes down to. Pride, ego, and butt hurtedness. Happens on both sides, but currently the left taking it to degrees rarely seen in the modern world.

All this stuff you're begging the government to regulate, is stuff you could implement in your own community. If people like you were hard at work doing that, it might seem a little more convincing.
