Something I noticed is that the younger generation of pron stars, especially European girls, do some really extreme stuff right from the get go. I think you're right, Sasha Grey def upped the ante, and she became a bit of a household name back then which made it more appealing for newcomers to gain notoriety by doing extreme stuff quickly. Not into the more extreme stuff myself but to each his own.
