Official coronavirus news discussion thread
China’s National Health Commission reported an additional 143 deaths nationwide, as well as 2,641 new confirmed cases as of Feb. 14.
That tally includes Hubei, the epicenter of the outbreak, where 2,420 new cases were reported, and 139 more deaths.
That brings the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 66,492, and number of total deaths at 1,523, the authority said.

Infections might be much more. If it gets out of China more, numbers will skyrocket out of control. Hopefully it doesn't get to that point and stays localized until vaccine is developed.

Apparently several people in Europe got Coronavirus without going to China or being around someone who had gone to China. Not sure how they got it.. Maybe from different bats in Europe? Idk..

Re: Official coronavirus thread
“Our proposal provided an alternative origin of the coronavirus in addition to natural recombination and intermediate host.”
The report clearly contests the Chinese authorities’ official findings that the virus jumped from bats to humans at the Wuhan wet market.
The scientists say, “The probability was very low for the bats to fly to the market.
“According to municipal reports and the testimonies of 31 residents and 28 visitors, the bat was never a food source in the city, and no bat was traded in the market.
“There was possible natural recombination or intermediate host of the coronavirus, yet little proof has been reported.”
These scientific laboratories are just 280 metres from the wet market.
The report further claims “In one of their studies, 155 bats including Rhinolophus affinis were captured in Hubei province, and another 450 bats were captured in Zhejiang province.
The scientist studying the collection of bats at the laboratory said how he was once “attacked by bats and the blood of a bat shot onto his skin.”
The scientists in Wuhan said, “In summary, somebody was entangled with the evolution of 2019-nCoV coronavirus.

So some researcher probably got affected by coronavirus during lab testing then walked to nearby food market, where coronavirus jumped to humans. I'm shocked researchers can just walk out like that without going through a full air disinfectant spray.
Either that or it went bat -> snake (or another animal) -> human

Re: Official coronavirus thread
Dr. Li Wenliang noticed the virus in his hospital before it was publicly reported. He told his colleagues to take extra precautions.
So when government authorities learned of Dr. Li’s discovery, they did not contain the virus. They contained Dr. Li, instead. He was arrested and forced to sign a false confession for spreading “rumors.” Officially, there was no virus.
Dr. Li died of COVID-19 several weeks later.
Meanwhile, two others who also exposed the virus’s impact, Chen Qiushi and Fang Bin, were uploading videos from inside Wuhan. Government authorities tracked them down and disappeared them. Chen’s family believes he was detained in quarantine with COVID-19 carriers, even though he appeared healthy.
Jeez, I didn't know that doctor was arrested and forced to confess to spreading rumors of virus by government security. That's pretty f*cked up. I thought they just muzzled him but it was much worse than that. Chinese government deserves to be called out on that. Absolutely no way around it.
It not only slowed down the response time, but it probably put fear into people from reporting accurately.. They even tried to cover it up as if nothing was wrong. Unbelievable...

Yeah I don't get that logic. They say warmer weather will kill this virus. Does that mean if you somewhere hot, like LA, you'd be immune? LOL

Re: Official coronavirus thread
Just shows how easily fake news can spread on the internet. I've never heard of any places in China that eats bats until the Coronavirus.
It's been debunked many times that the pictures are videos are of Asians trying out bats while vacationing in Indonesia or a remote pacific island.

And lets not kid ourselves. Every country has labs and experiment with these viruses. China isn't the only one that has one.

Re: Official coronavirus thread
Obvously Trump was doing a figure of speech but warmer weather tend to mean the end of flu season due to many factors. It's likely that this is also the case with Coronavirus.
I've heard since early January that the virus is linked to bat eating snakes sold at Wuhan market.

Re: Official coronavirus thread
This is one of those situations where, if even one government with a moderate population falls short of taking every effort and precaution to secure their population and quickly attend to individuals who show symptoms of coronavirus, things can get bad pretty quickly.
Enter Cambodia...
When Cambodia’s prime minister greeted passengers on a cruise ship amid a coronavirus scare on Valentine’s Day, embraces were the order of the day. Protective masks were not.
Not only did Prime Minister Hun Sen not wear one, assured that the ship was virus-free, his bodyguards ordered people who had donned masks to take them off. The next day, the American ambassador to Cambodia, W. Patrick Murphy, who brought his own family to greet the passengers streaming off the ship, also went maskless.
But after hundreds of passengers had disembarked, one later tested positive for the coronavirus. Now, health officials worry that what Cambodia opened its doors to was the outbreak, and that the world may pay a price as passengers from the cruise ship Westerdam stream home.
It is too early to tell whether the decision to let hundreds of passengers from the Westerdam fly off has the makings of an epidemiological disaster. Cambodian health authorities said that 409 of the 2,257 passengers and crew had left Cambodia for their homes scattered across the globe. The rest remain in hotels in Phnom Penh, the capital, or on the ship.

I facepalmed reading that article snippet.. Oh boy, mistakes like that are inexcusable. They need to test everyone who was on that ship, but it still might be too late. They probably came in contact with countless people on the streets and stores. I guess we will know for certain in a week..

It was created by the Communist Chinese Party, and it obviously leaked in their under ground laboratories. Nust watched a video of it on facebook. The coronavirus is a biological weapon.
