Hearing crazy theories that if the virus does become a pandemic, that an estimated 60% of the population will contract it, and that 2% of those infected will automatically die as a result.

    That's around 9 million dead.

Nah, no way because once it becomes slightly big, people are just going to stock up and stay home. School and offices will close for a few weeks and everyone's going to wear masks. There's just no way in this day and age it comes to 60% of the population.

If it hits Africa. Look out. It will probably have a lot higher mortality rate there and spreads quickly unless Africans are more resistant to the disease than Caucasians and Asians. Ebola isn't easy to transmit, you need to get blood or to a lesser extent other bodily fluids in a cut or mucus membrane to get infected and that shit still infects thousands in Africa

Researchers are finding that the pattern of infections follow a bell curve of sorts, where there are people at the left of the curve that are infected but have no symptoms or only mild ones. Then the bulk of people are in the center and have significant fever/flu-like systems but are likely to recover. Then there are those at the right of the curve that are seriously ill to the point of respiratory collapse and organ failure. The most alarming thing they are finding is more and more otherwise healthy adults are ending up on the deadly serious side. The other troubling aspect are those with no symptoms at all. How many people will they infect?

Is there any evidence of that?

There are 11 million people in Wuhan...75,000 have it.

Thats less than 1% of Wuhan that has this...put it at 2% if you think the Chinese gov is lying about numbers (imo that would be really difficult at this point)

New cases are slowing, its starting to level off.

There are 30 Americans infected, 15 came from Wuhan, the other 15 from a cruise ship. 3 of those have fully recovered, 0 have died.

IMO, this is not a threat to the US, and the biggest hit will come financially due to China businesses being shut down and affecting revenue for many US businesses. I have a feeling when Q1 earnings start rolling in many will miss projected earnings and the market will drop. That will late Aprilish.

But wouldn't it be harder for the virus to spread in Africa since it's hot af and supossedly these viruses tend to die out in warmer climate?

It's spreading fast in South Korea, Japan and Singapore atm. Likely in other countries too, but they don't have the infrastructure to test.

You're probably right. That's the rule of thumb for most cases, and it's what the president has said. But with this strain who knows. SubSaharan africa was the least affected region during the 2009 flu pandemic. But I've read that more SubSaharan Africans die of influenza per capita than any region, especially during the rainy season, so they aren't exactly immune to it.

^^^ two doctors debunk 13 myths

Some of the myths floating around out there are flat out retarded smh

Something I think we should really know and accept: there are 400+ coronaviruses out there in nature. SARS and MERs were both coronaviruses. Theyve happened before, and they will happen again. Probably be a new one next flu season.
