Is it okay to ask for a thank you?

When I get someone a gift-many times I don’t get a thank you. My friend said as an adult it’s your right to ask them to thank you. Something along the lines of.. “Hey I was wondering how you liked your gift. You like it, that’s good. So thank me for it and I will appreciate it.”

I thought that was a little aggressive. But he said I’m an adult and I don’t have to be a baby about this. He says a man that wants to be thanked should ask to be thanked and not have to feel bad about it. He thought I was crazy for questioning it and he said I need to be a mature adult and ask everyone to thank me if that’s what I want.

What do you think? If you are wondering why someone didn’t thank you for a gift should you tell them to thank you?
