Like, why shouldn't we put a lot more focus on our healthcare and being prepared for times of crisis, now that we've fully realized that something could come along and kill us at any given time. The bi-product would be that we could all get better healthcare in times of non-crisis.
The message would be very simple to get through and there are so many easy examples to use. E.g is it a good use of effort and resources to build a BMW only to blow it up in a movie, when the effort and resources could have been applied to making hospital supplies and save lives?
Season finale of Curb Your Enthusiasm had a close up shot of hand sanitizer going up in flames, a bit ironic in the middle of this happening.
until we decide that taking care of americans is more important than bombing weddings in impoverished middle eastern nations and giving tax breaks to the wealthiest people on the planet, we will never have a single spare penny for healthcare.
this change in values has obviously not happened yet

OTOH, if the world is shutting down to prevent corona then it is effectively preventing influenza as well. The way it spreads is essentially the same. The stat Manny is providing is flu vs corona during the same time period.
Critically thinking of course.

Except it's not. It's a projection based on last year's models.

Show me your work. I can make up numbers too
The new coronavirus outbreak was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) on March 11. Since then, it’s spread to almost every continent in the world, with more than 870,000 confirmed cases and more than 43,000 deaths, as of 1 April.
As of March 7
According to CDC, this year's flu season has led to at least 17 million medical visits and 370,000 hospitalizations. CDC found that the percentage of outpatient visits for influenza-like illness increased to 5.2% in the week ending on March 7, up from 5.1% the previous week. The national baseline for those visits is 2.4%.
CDC estimated that there have been at least 22,000 deaths related to the flu so far this season.

What is the point that you're trying to make by comparing covid deaths worldwide and flu deaths in the US?

Yeah I'll take my licks on this. Read it wrong and didn't realize the flu deaths were just US.
