maybe we should shut down everything forever. Everybody can sit in their rooms and catatonically stare at the wall. No more crime and no more accidents forever!

Agreed, I would bet the farm that the data shows influenza deaths being way down compared to the average for march... not only because people are spreading it less, but also because a ton of influenza deaths are undoubtedly being re-classified as covid deaths.

Anything that kills people outside of their own homes is significantly down because 90% of people are at home

Re: Total US deaths during March down 15% compared to last 4 years average
So there were 34,000 less death this month than the last 4 years average.
On average per month in the US:
- 3,200 car deaths
- 1,300 murders
- 290 accidental drownings
- 4,500 flu deaths
If we pretend that none of those deaths have occurred since the lockdown, that still only accounts for a little over 9,000 deaths. There are still 25,000 deaths unaccounted for.
Then we have to add covid deaths in March which were 4,500. For such a devastating virus, you'd think it could fill the gap.
