Default How much do you shop local or small business?

    Do you make an effort?

I do for some things. Fruits and vegetables mostly. But lately I’ve been doing local dairy and while I’ve never been one of those “You can taste the difference” people....you can taste the difference.

    This place:

    http://www.happycowcreamery.com/

Has me buying local milks and cheeses like a tv soccer mom.

I was just there for some strawberry milk, a couple cheeses, and some ice cream and noticed this sign:

Which I’m sure would be enough to get support from some of you.

    Back to the point though.....

How is your local area for shit like that and do you support it?

If so is it on principle or just because the products are good?

Gotta admit....I’m mostly doing it because the shit is good. Which is reason enough.

I don't know of any shit as I just moved earlier this year and haven't done jack shit because it was right before the lock downs started... I wanted to go to NYC this year. Well, there's always next year... hopefully.

I did buy some genuine farm free range chicken eggs... I went to an actual farm down in florida... the eggs weren't any better than the expensive shit at the grocery store.

And generally speaking I buy on Amazon as much as possible. Little shops are terribly priced by comparison, which isn't their fault, but it is what it is. Also, I don't like going to stores period. I especially hate ****ing Wal-Mart.

I don’t eat eggs in any form pure enough to tell the difference. I’m not gonna just....scramble and eat an egg on its own.

The dairy products I can tell are different. You really have to shake the milk. You can see the fat which I guess is butter that didn’t get removed or whatever you call it. They can heat it less than commercial so it keeps more of the flavor that supposedly makes non pasteurized milk products overseas better.

They will sell you the totally raw bootleg cheese if you ask. As I understand it’s it’s illegal to even import that shit because of bacteria risks or whatever heavy handed red tape reason they use. They don’t directly “sell” it probably for legal reasons but they have it to give away and you can leave an unrelated donation. Good workaround.

Ive not had any or even seen it but I hear it’s good.

I live at the end of Cape Cod aka Outer Cape. There isn't a ton of chain/franchise penetration out here so we mostly buy local because we don't have a choice. We have a few Stop & Shop markets and a Wendy's. You have to go to Dennis, Yarmouth or Barnstable to find the big-city type things (McDonalds, Target, etc.)

My beers of choice are all local (Barnstable Brewing in Hyannis, Hog Island in Orleans and Devil's Purse in Dennis).
My coffee is Beanstock Coffee Roasters of Wellfleet, MA.
I get my meat from the butcher at Nauset Farms in Orleans.
I get my seafood at Chatham Fish & Lobster; they get stocked every morning by fisherman off-loading at Chatham Fish Pier.
Tons of local produce to be had at Friends Market and Nauset Farms, both in Orleans.
There are like four houses in my neighborhood that keep chickens and sell fresh eggs.
I'm thinking of replacing my current broken beach chair with a slick one from Cape Cod Beach Chair Co. of Harwich.
There's a bunch of art, photography and accessories in the house, all made by Cape artists.

Not enough. I'm admittedly a big hypocrite on this. I rail against the big corps and internet stores, and say people should shop more brick and mortar mom n pops but I spend way too much money at Walmart and Amazon.

I will say I buy most of my sporting goods stuff at a locally owned shop as well as my meat and beer purchases

Oh sure, laugh it up, just LAUGHHHHH it up.

But one day you will regret your complacency and capitulation to the consolidationist agenda.

    You mark my words.

    You will rue the day!

Eat family or independent owned businesses and give them the means to go and buy local. Kill 2 birds with one stone.

I always support my favorite independent owned establishments. Especially sourced locally and keep local craft beer on tap

To help small business, stand against all the COVID-19 & BLM/Antifa/rioting bullshit (might be a little late now tho).

That being said, yes, I shop at local/small businesses.
