Kawhi can be the best player on a title team but needs someone else to galvanize and actually be the on-court/locker room leader, hence someone like Lowry. Kawhi is too mute to play that role and it showed this postseason, a lack of oncourt leadership and lack of preparation for the bubble( which you've already admitted played into the Clippers demise). MJ, Bron, Kobe, Magic, Bird, Russell etc would have had the troops ready for battle and not subjected to blowing a 3-1 lead to 7'1 Brian Windhorst.
