To be fair, wanting more playmaking has been a consistent theme for LeBron for several years as well. Difference is when there isnt any available, LeBron is fully capable of taking the primary responsibility there. Kawhi on the other hand, is incapable of generating consistent offense for anyone but himself.

Kawhi always had a team that had consistent ball movement without Kawhi on the floor. Spurs and Raptors had excellent coaching.
Having to be the floor general for the first time of his life is something he just can't do every night.
Great player, definitely top 5 player. But there's a big gap between what Kawhi contributes and what LeBron contributes every night.
