The New York Knicks are moving up in Wednesday’s NBA draft, acquiring the Utah Jazz’s pick at No. 23 in exchange for the No. 27 and No. 38 selections, sources told ESPN. The Knicks will now hold the No. 8 and No. 23 picks in Wednesday’s draft, the first for the team under new president of basketball operations Leon Rose.

I like it! Hasn't really sounded like there is a center at that spot. Now they can get a center and pg hopefully

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski first reported, and multiple outlets quickly did, too, that the Jazz will trade the 23rd pick in the draft to the New York Knicks for the 27th and 38th selections, as well as the draft rights to 2008 second-round pick Ante Tomic.

And Ante! Was nice almost knowing you. Sigh...

Also, with the Jazz at a full roster of 15 players (and 2 two-way contracts), and as much as we all love the players as people, this will mean some serious competition for roster spots, and/or saying goodbye to some of the players. Frankly, the Jazz may look to cut Ed Davis, Nigel Williams-Goss, Juwan Morgan, or Rayjon Tucker. Or, perhaps the Jazz use one of the picks on a draft-and-stash prospect. The possibilities are wide open.

Doubt the eat Davis' deal. Should be competition with the non guaranteed and partial deals. Tucker and Morgan should be around and it sounds likely they will. Goss is probably gone thus the need at the 1

In Lindsey and Zanik we trust!

    speak for yourself!

With top-heavy salaries, the Jazz need to fill out the roster with cheap talent. Lot of draft picks means maybe a few of them turn into viable rotation players for little cost.

and yet all we here are they are signing Clarkson, eating Davis' contract, cutting Tucker and Morgan, signing Favors...

Hopefully we get a rotation player with one of these picks. We really need it.

With the 27th pick, look for the Jazz to target some of the players we’ve covered here at SLCDunk, such as Malachi Flynn, Desmond Bane, Jaden McDaniels, and Leandro Bolmaro. If a prospect like Josh Green, Tyrell Terry or Aleksej Pokusevski slides, the Jazz can potentially snatch them up at 27 and still have another pick on the board. The 38th pick could definitely be prime targets for the sleepers we’ve covered as well, such as Paul Reed, Immanuel Quickley, Xavier Tillman, Ty-Shon Alexander, or Killian Tillie. Or maybe the Jazz go off the book (at least, compared to the players we’ve covered) and pick someone like Robert Woodard, Tyler Bey, Daniel Oturu, or Isaiah Joe who could all immediately contribute in a specific shooting and/or defense-focused role off the bench.

Oturu sounds like the guy being the only center amongst those listed. Not the great length the Jazz love but maybe acceptable? Says he can shoot and protect the rim. Just need a pg with length now though you don't list many of those either!

38th pick lets Jazz fill a roster spot at the bare minimum of $898,310, which should help them navigate luxury tax while still using full MLE and possibly BAE too.

Probably less. Two way. THeir 2nd rouner and Forman Wright? Might be too late to hope to stash anyone. Teams are already playing around the globe

I really like this move for the Jazz. There’s not too much of a difference between the 27th and 23rd pick (higher-upside prospects like Tyrese Maxey, Jalen Smith, and Precious Achiuwa were likely going to be off the board by then anyway), and there’s plenty of depth around the 38th pick. In a draft filled with a relatively lacking top end but tons of depth in the middle of the draft (especially with wings and forwards), the Jazz are doing the sensible thing to build up the bench with solid talent. I probably don’t need to remind you that the Jazz had the worst bench in the entire NBA until the late December trade for Jordan Clarkson. Doing this allows the Jazz another shot at finding a potentially excellent role player.

wings and forwards are the last thing they need!

They are drafting the positions they need least and without length which they are obsessed about?

Supposedly they are going for this guy. Great length. How is it that I'm the only one with a clue? Where's the 2, 3 or 4 we so desperately need?

Bradley traded. This guy is the same age. Hopefully they plan on signing a vet until he's ready though

younger and longer than Bradley. Rim protector. Says he moves pretty well which Tony didn't initially. Only 21 after 4 years of college. Favors or who?

Udoka could salvage this. But it's not a good draft night for Utah right now.1. Knicks trade exactly the same selection for 25/33, not 27/382. Pick a guy who was not projected to go in the first round3. Salary dump trade your FRP 3 years ago, losing the No. 384. Get cash???

    8:48 PM · Nov 18, 2020

Not sure it's just a salary dump. They must be getting a vet. No reason to send Bradley back to the bench. Got the center they needed more than anything with length that is younger than Bradley. Hopefully buy a 2nd rounder for the pg now
