Hakeem in 1994 almost had the perfect season
He became the first and only player to win the regular season MVP, Finals MVP, DPOY and the championship in one season. But was also 2.6ppg off from being the scoring leader as well. Many people think MJ had the GOAT Season but it was Hakeem

Re: Hakeem in 1994 almost had the perfect season
94' Pippen almost beat Ewing with 21 on 40%.
So Jordan replacing pippen beats Ewing, and Jordan beats Hakeem because Ewing basically did with 18 on 36%
Otoh, hakeem's 1995 season was more dominant and his Rockets were for real... Could've beaten the bulls

Re: Hakeem in 1994 almost had the perfect season
Hakeem beat a better Knicks team (3 all-stars) in 1994 that year than any of the Knicks teams Jordan beat. The 1993-94 Knicks were definitely the peak Knicks team of the Ewing years. And Jordan dodged them that exact year. Congratulations to Hakeem on beating them.

Either him or Jordan - tomato; tomahto. In 92, Jordan had the best YEAR though. Won MVP, FMVP, a scoring title, made 1st Team All-NBA/All-Def, beat his DIRECT rival in the finals and then won GOLD in Barcelona.

Re: Hakeem in 1994 almost had the perfect season
He had one of the best seasons of all-time, there is no doubt about that. Like Jordan in 1992, LeBron in 2013, Duncan in 2003, Bird in 1986, etc. Seasons where a player wins regular season MVP, FMVP and the ring.

If the 90's were already considered weak with Michael Jordan in it, how much weaker was it without him?

He beat Ewing (HOFer) and two all stars. That’s legit competition I’d say

Re: Hakeem in 1994 almost had the perfect season
Hakeem's Rockets in 1995 are the only team that I believe would have beaten the Bulls during the 90s. But aside from that, Hakeem was such a force - a combination of an array of post moves with what seemed to be a natural instinct to prohibit players from getting to the rim. His defensive acumen was second to none, and that included David Robinson and Dikembe Mutombo (biased I know). He was an incredible player who could combine scoring, offensive IQ, and defensive IQ in an amazing package.

Patrick Ewing was not considered elite competition. He was widely called overrated at the time. It was open season on him, honestly, because everyone used to make fun of him in some way or the other. Back in the day his fans used to write in to papers to defend him against charges of being a "go-nowhere player."
