The other thing I was thinking of the other day was how twitter, facebook et al were practically lauded about a decade ago during the Arab spring. People were saying it was so great how social media had helped facilitate the uprisings in the middle east. Clearly big tech and the US govt. have no problem with social media fermenting chaos overseas but apply a double standard in the US.

Based on what we have seen the past few days big tech are going to be complicit with the US govt in silencing some voices whilst amplifying others, social media is actually a total godsend to the NSA, CIA etc imo.

They have no problem with the govt having their foot on the throat of small business for damn near a year but the minute someone complains about the moderating behavior of big tech people play the "you can't tell them what to to do, it's a private business" argument.

That exact thing happened to a business near me in Davis, CA.

I can't remember the exact specfics but the boomer owners of some sandwich restaurant were anti BLM and they got on the wrong side of either their gen z college kid employees or their liberal clientele and basically ended up losing their business.

In fairness I think the owners did or said something stupid and ill advised on social media that caused them to incur the wrath of the mob but still it's one of those things where the left wing mob think they have the right to determine who does and who does not stay in business. It's disgusting.

Twitter literally blocks any mention of the Hunter Biden corruption scandals in coordination with all the major news channels. Government ordering it in America would be illegal. Private companies doing it by their own accord is not the government ordering it. Trumpeters seem unable to comprehend the difference no matter how many times it is brought up and explained.

Freedom of Speech simply means that the Gov is not allowed to arrest you for your beliefs or the shit you say. It does NOT mean that every website on the planet is forced to host your stupid opinions. Twitter and every other social media website has been banning users since their inception and THEY are the ones that should have that right. The day that the Gov starts dictating what are media does is the day we are a dictatorship...that's what North Korea does, THEY dictate what their citizens see rather than the media companies themselves.

Maybe you should read the wiki link yourself... heres the very first sentence

Then a little further down the page they talk about international law

Freedom of speech is far more broad of a concept than our simple constitutional definition. If you want to pretend that freedom of speech should not be thought of as a principle/concept, but only as it exists in a strictly legal sense... Uganda is a sovereign nation with their own laws/constitution, and no doubt their govt feels legally justified in this decision.
