The other thing I was thinking of the other day was how twitter, facebook et al were practically lauded about a decade ago during the Arab spring. People were saying it was so great how social media had helped facilitate the uprisings in the middle east. Clearly big tech and the US govt. have no problem with social media fermenting chaos overseas but apply a double standard in the US.

Based on what we have seen the past few days big tech are going to be complicit with the US govt in silencing some voices whilst amplifying others, social media is actually a total godsend to the NSA, CIA etc imo.

The Left: They are a private company they can do as they please.
Also the Left: A cake shop cannot refuse to sell a wedding cake to gay people.
Also the Left: private companies cannot serve people food, let people workout, etc.

The left actually advocated to close a local business near me because they didn’t support BLM. They tried to sabotage the business. That’s fvcked

I agree with his argument entirely. They have no problem with the govt having their foot on the throat of small business for damn near a year but the minute someone complains about the moderating behavior of big tech people play the "you can't tell them what to to do, it's a private business" argument.

Honestly its just another indicator of just how out of touch these clowns are.

That exact thing happened to a business near me in Davis, CA.

I can't remember the exact specfics but the boomer owners of some sandwich restaurant were anti BLM and they got on the wrong side of either their gen z college kid employees or their liberal clientele and basically ended up losing their business.

In fairness I think the owners did or said something stupid and ill advised on social media that caused them to incur the wrath of the mob but still it's one of those things where the left wing mob think they have the right to determine who does and who does not stay in business. It's disgusting.

Twitter literally blocks any mention of the Hunter Biden corruption scandals in coordination with all the major news channels. Blatantly, out in the open, for no other reason that it would hurt Joe Biden. Low character person that doesn't care because they love the pedo Biden because he's the quarterback of their team, "They're a private company, they can do what they want to do."
Excellent show of the disconnect between people in this thread, your opinion vs blade's.

The people who can't seem to comprehend the matter at hand are you blade, prime, Kblaze etc. None of you seem to grasp freedom of speech as a concept that is a pillar of western society, and not just a law.

Freedom of Speech simply means that the Gov is not allowed to arrest you for your beliefs or the shit you say. It does NOT mean that every website on the planet is forced to host your stupid opinions. Twitter and every other social media website has been banning users since their inception and THEY are the ones that should have that right. The day that the Gov starts dictating what are media does is the day we are a dictatorship...that's what North Korea does, THEY dictate what their citizens see rather than the media companies themselves.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_of_the_press

^^^ read that..."FREEDOM OF PRESS"...part of the 1st Amendment. It protects our media from Gov interference.

That's the difference between us and Uganda.

Like I said, you only understand it as a law and not a a concept, that's why you latch on to these technical determinations and distinctions.

"The day that the Gov starts dictating what are media does is the day we are a dictatorship."

Yes because there's no in-between, right? Either it's free or it's a dictatorship is basically what you're saying.

What about when government people don't dictate, but instead work together with various media platforms, outlets and journalists to control what is being written and said?
No you can't apply the word dictatorship to that situation, but the outcome of controlled information for the population is still the same.

That's basically what was happening before, Twitter hosted Trump for 4 years, there is still an official White House profile AND there is also an Official Gov run POTUS profile:

    https://twitter.com/POTUS

why doesn't Trump just use that?...instead of his own personal account

Maybe you should read the wiki link yourself... heres the very first sentence

"Freedom of the press or freedom of the media is the principle that communication and expression through various media, including printed and electronic media, especially published materials, should be considered a right to be exercised freely."
Then a little further down the page they talk about international law

"The United Nations' 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights states: "Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference, and to seek, receive, and impart information and ideas through any media regardless of frontiers".
Freedom of speech is far more broad of a concept than our simple constitutional definition. If you want to pretend that freedom of speech should not be thought of as a principle/concept, but only as it exists in a strictly legal sense... Uganda is a sovereign nation with their own laws/constitution, and no doubt their govt feels legally justified in this decision.

Trump deserved to get banned from Twitter.

His simps who keep insisting on making excuses for him are pathetic scum.

You are not entitled to Twitter's platform. It is literally that simple.

That's saying that you have the freedom of opinion and to seek out info and ideas from media...it is NOT saying that the media is forced to HOST everyone's opinion.

Fck Twitter doesn't even have to exist if they don't want to...Dorsey could take down the website, say goodbye to everyone and retire.

Why doesn't Trump just make all official statements and announcements on the White House website?...people will look...I would

    https://www.whitehouse.gov/

I've always thought it was weird that he used Twitter as his official form of communication.

or some form of official "Gov run" media that THEY control
