"World" champions but one country plays the sport (and Canada with their crappy league). It always makes me chuckle.

It wouldn’t be fair to the rest of the world if they competed

eh... there are some rugby leagues where those guys are just as tough if not tougher than NFL athletes. They actually hit each other with no protection.

I’m sure there are some big rugby players but nfl players are huge and jacked as fvck. You don’t realize how hard they hit..

Pro Rugby players are just as big. They have a ton of talent from the islands like samoans and polynesians that are some of the biggest guys in the NFL as well.
They are monster size, and slam into each other with no helmets or shoulder pads.

Didnt a rugby legend by the name of Hayne or something like that try and play in the NFL only to be cut by the 49ers?

it's like boxing to MMA. McGregor lost to Mayweather in Boxing but you can bet your ass any middleweight wrestler would dominate mayweather in an MMA ring. Both fighters, different sports. Rugby and football are different sports but both have ridiculously strong big and fast athletes that tackle each other. Rules are totally different though. Let an NFL player try to play rugby... the rules are so different he wouldn't even know what to do to score lol.

Brock Lesnar I believe also got cut in the NFL and was a better prime athlete than 90% of the players in the league.

And? His point was if you developed american football in other countries then they wouldn't stand a chance against the NFL, which is true. Don't know why you brought rugby into this discussion, it's already been proven they don't translate to be good football players.

Re: Official LV Super Bowl thread
It hasn't been proven at all. Rugby players grew up playing rugby. Football players grew up playing football. His point was NFL players have a size and "jacked" advantage over rugby players which is why they would dominate but that's not true. If anything they would win because they grew up playing the game, learning all the nuances and techniques. You gave a one person sample size example to make a point about "rugby players not be good at football" which is beyond ignorant and just... dumb. Sample size of 1. Woah.
Again Brock Lesnar was cut from the NFL and is more "jacked" and athletic than a ton of linemen. But he grew up mostly practicing wrestling... and thus didnt have the technique, skill, or feel for football like guys who played it their entire lives. You can't even answer to that because you know it's the truth. Linemen have to be incredibly skilled at getting to spots. It's not just about raw measureables... You have to have a mind and intituition for the game. Otherwise this guy wouldn't be a practice squad scrub.

Re: Official LV Super Bowl thread
This is Brock Lesnar getting his ass handed to by former Patriots O-Lineman Stephen Neal in a wrestling heavyweight championship match.
Having a background in wrestling is greatly beneficial to being a lineman in the NFL, it teaches you how to be balanced and how to use your hips, fact is Lesnar wasn't good enough.

Re: Official LV Super Bowl thread
Not true...
Neal is one of just a very few players in the NFL who never played college football. He was a Division I champion wrestler at Cal State-Bakersfield, and had aspirations to be an Olympic wrestler, not an NFL player
So what you're saying doesn't make sense. Most wrestlers never make it to the NFL. It's an extreme rarity. And has nothing to do with lack of athleticism, and everything to do with lack of experience in the game.

Re: Official LV Super Bowl thread
Pro Rugby is full of phenomenal athletes, but they dont move as fast or hit as hard as NFL guys.
Football is played in short-bursts where players go ALL OUT for a couple seconds, followed by a period of rest... with players constantly getting subbed in between snaps and the entire team getting subbed whenever theres a change in possession.
Rugby has plenty of bursts, but the game does not stop between tackles so players are constantly jogging for the entire game duration... and if you want to sub a player out, that player is not allowed back into the game, so players have far less opportunity to rest. Conserving energy is much more important in Rugby than NFL, which means slower play and weaker hits.
Also, IMO the fact that football players wear pads helps them hit a lot harder than the hits you see in Rugby. Humans have a strong instinct for self preservation, and wearing pads help to overcome that instinct... players wearing pads will throw themselves into hits with much more speed and recklessness than a player who is unprotected, and unprotected players will be more cautious about protecting themselves from incoming hits than players with pads on.
Anyway, New Zealand (population 5m) is basically the best nation on the planet at Rugby... and while they have some amazing athletes, theres no way in hell that tiny NZ would be on par with the USA in football if they were all playing that instead.
