Oh come on. Don't believe that it's just nostalgia. The NBA had character. You had players of all sizes. From Mugsee Bogues and Spudd Webb to Shaq and Shawn Bradley. You had 3 point specialists like Steve Kerr and later on dribbling specialists like Jason Williams. It seemed like every team had characters. Guys getting in fist fights too just made you realize how competitive they were. You had all KINDS of players.

Nowadays, there are players of all sizes, with different types of skillsets, and with different types of characters.

Fistfights have no place in basketball (those have nothing to do with competitive spirit).
