Trump is an elitist himself, nothing about him is populist except for his words but with very little to no action behind them. That these guys think he was an everyman is hilarious, he did absolutely nothing to benefit the working class over the elites, in fact he delivered their biggest tax cuts ever. It's quite amusing how these guys still think he was an outsider. He was a outsider only in that he wasn't a politician before he ran for POTUS but he was very much so a part of the Establishment.

Specifically on covid, he was all over the place on that, first dismissing it as a Democratic hoax while telling reporters behind the scenes that it was very serious stuff, praising the Chinese for their openness while at the same time blaming them for the China virus.
