Brian Windhorst on candidates to coach Team USA: I would say Steve Kerr, who’s been an assistant the last few years, Erik Spoelstra, who did some work with the team earlier this summer with coaching, selecting, and I think Monty Williams will present himself as a strong candidate as well, if he wants the job going forward. Also, there is an advantage of having a college coach, because he’s sort of a neutral party. And they if they took that route, you might see Jay Wright.

Devin Harris may not have been as splashy a name as Williams, but he was a reasonable replacement for him during his stay in Utah. Furthermore, the Jazz used the two first round picks they acquired in the deal on Enes Kanter and Gorgui Dieng. The former was a starting center for the Utah Jazz until he was eventually usurped by Rudy Gobert and his vastly superior interior defense.

Harris was horrible and to get rid of him they had to take on Marvin Williams!

This trade may have been far from the best deal the Utah Jazz have made in their franchise history, but given their apparent urgency to move Williams, they did receive a solid return for the soon-to-regress point guard. That makes it the best deal the franchise has made in their history with the Nets.

Adrian Dantley is one of the finest midrange shooters in NBA history and an undisputed Utah Jazz icon. At the cost of a rapidly aging Spencer Haywood, that’s a pretty good return.

On first blush, that seems like a fair price for Clarkson’s services. Dante Exum entered the National Basketball Association with a lot of promise, as he was selected 5th overall in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Utah Jazz. Unfortunately, injuries have derailed the young Aussie’s career. By 2021, Exum is 26-year-old. He missed his entire sophomore season with a knee injury, played 66 games the following year, and hasn’t managed even 45 games in a season since.

As for those two second-round picks, it’s possible that in hindsight, the Cavaliers will be glad to have landed them. We’ve seen productive players slip to the second-round with increasing frequency in the NBA, with Nikola Jokic and Draymond Green serving as two prominent examples of second-round steals. With that said, contending teams like the Utah Jazz will always have to take that risk in efforts to upgrade their immediate roster: the odds of a second-round selection yielding a player of Jordan Clarkson’s (ironically, a second-round pick himself) value simply remain too low.

Last season, he was shooting a solid 58% effective field goal percentage (eFG%) heading into the All-Star Break. He shot a grizzly 49 eFG% afterwards, and that trend continued into the playoffs with an eFG% of 50.9.
