My son is turning 17 Friday. He's requested to have his first drink with me and have a parry with his friends. I'm surprised he waited this long to have his first drink and honored to have chosen it with his pops

He is probably putting up a front to get your permission to have a drinking party with his friends. Sounds like a setup.

I believe it was sophomore year of high school, so I guess I would have been... 15? Somewhere around there IIRC.

Just be careful about sanctioning a party with underage drinking. Obviously kids will be kids, and it's fine to look the other way. But if you knowingly permit it and something happens to someone, you could end up on the hook. Not saying dont do it, just be careful and keep a close eye on things if you do.

Yeah of course. But I know plenty of Muslims that have drank and swear they are devout outside of them few slipups. Even my non muslim friends, they tell me I'm not missing much. It's good for the buzz, tastes terrible but helps you escape. We all need an escape at times, but I've figured out halal ways for that and some that toe the line

Kid is a straight edge. We have a strong Christian background. I've offered him a drink since 13 so I know he's legit. He knows he can have a drink anytime he wants.

I was 5 years old ... my parents and grandparents basically were from Austria and Hungary , so it was was a daily thing.
(I drank wine , more so than beer , but had my own stein)
I was drunk at age of 11 when my grandfather had me clean a 500 gallon wine barrel !!
First time threw up was 17... was served in many beer bars in Wisconsin, age requirement was 18.

First time drunk was 16. Drank so much that night and puked all over the place on the way home.
