In all honesty if they really want to push the LGTQB agenda just take an existing female character and empower her or create a new bisexual hero and make him the most powerful being ever. Like if a new Betonder was gay I think that might make an interesting story arc.

Exactly, if you want to make a bisexual character by all means go ahead. However, using the husk of Superman as a trojan horse for said ones' agenda is a slap in the face to the fanbase. Establishing a new popular character takes time/talent/marketing, much easier to just go after an iconic hero.
