Yes, after MJ/Kawhi got their teams to the apex, they won 50+ without them - but that was the APEX - what happens all the other years??

could pippen/lowry keep BUILDING their teams like MJ did every year before they won chips?... That's what true stars do - they BUILD a team to championship..

So what did Pippen do after the apex and after the 3-peat luster was gone in 1995?... lol... we all saw what happened - the 95' Bulls were a disaster so Pippen had officially destroyed a dynasty in less than 2 years - Pippen was infact pointing to his shoe and begging MJ to return.

in hindsight, it's clear that Pippen wasn't a legit 1st or 2nd option because he was outscored by the opponent's 2nd leading scorer in half the series he played, while his low PPG and worst-ever efficiency further confirmed that he couldn't handle the load/volume.

But to answer your question more directly - defending champs play the best brand of ball and are usually still decent without the star.. More importantly, that particular player type (assassin scorer, quick-iso player, off-ball player) can employ the best brand of basketball (ball movement), which keeps the team afloat without them and allows the best team ceilings WITH them.. Otoh, centers and ball-dominators can't employ the best brand of ball, so the team has no brand to rely on in the absence of their talent.

Sounds crazy perhaps, but these guys didn't need to play with Magic or Kareem to win because they have the best skillset (assassin scorer/quick-iso/off-ball) that doesn't need as much help to win while still allowing the best strategy (ball movement)

A guy who never averaged 19+ ppg against a healthy team in the Finals is in your Mount Rushmore. That's awesome.

you know all of this already but I guess you prefer to hear it from me.. it's easier to accept reality - your boy is a FRAUD... lol... but you can recover - just reject the drivel you watch on ESPN and look down on their inferior knowledge as you watch them, like i do

Will Kawhi ever average 19+ against a healthy Finals team? He has like 3 more prime seasons right?

Prime Pippen without MJ in 94: 22/9/6/3/2 49%
Prime Draymond without Curry in 2020: 8/6/6/1/1 39%

Don't ever make that comparison again.

your lists sway more than palm trees during a hurricane...and now it excludes players because of some dumbed-downed criteria, ironically since you've been exposed as a Kobestan hiding behind MJ, he's bumped to 2

MJ - Pippen was top 5-n the 90s, 10 at very worst
    Kobe - Shaq Gasol
Bird - had Archibald, Parish, McHale as multi-year all-stars alongside him
    Kawhi - TD, Parker, Manu

only you would overlook these players having elite help
