Mitchell would enter Sacramento and immediately be the number one scoring option, although Fox would still be the ball handler. Sabonis would be the anchor down low, and Donte DiVincenzo, Trey Lyles, Chimezie Metu, and Kevin Huerter would round out the lineup, scoring from deep and taking some pressure off the two-star guards.

Fox was at 23 last year so Mitchell isn't necessarily 1st option. You should run things through Sabonis not the two gunners though

Plus, if they have Mitchell, they will be competing for several years. Fox, Mitchell, and Sabonis would be the best young big three in the league, so there’s no reason the Kings should hold onto their future. Richaun Holmes and Harrison Barnes are included for salary matching reasons. Barnes only has one year and $18 million left on his deal, so he could play in Salt Lake for a year or negotiate a buyout. Holmes has three years left, and he’s a productive backup center who’s shown some defensive prowess, averaging 1.3 blocks in three seasons as a starter. He’s 28 but could manage the paint as the Jazz flounder without Mitchell or Gobert.

They have at least a couple young players Danny would probably want. Don't want a guy with 3 years on his contract that's for sure even if he's probably tradable

Bertans isn’t quite as much of a positive for the future, but with a team option on the third year of his deal, the Jazz would actually be able to save money by unloading Mike Conley’s contract. This trade works out for both teams, as it lets Utah add to their future, while giving Dallas another talented, ball-handling guard, something they severely lack beyond Luka Doncic and Spencer Dinwiddie.

Unless Kevin Durant gets moved before the 2022 season, this would be by far the biggest trade of the off-season, sending superstar Donovan Mitchell to Toronto for three decent players, along with three first-round draft picks. However, given Danny Ainge’s reluctance to budge off the price for the Knicks, it’s highly unlikely that he will settle for just three picks from a team that would immediately become a contender.

ESPN has the Utah Jazz coming in at 26-56, finishing in 12th place in the Western Conference, still above the San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder, placing them right in no mans land – too high to earn a top-three pick, but too low to compete for a genuine playoff spot.

I could see the current team at that number. If Danny can unload the vets before the season it should be more in the teens!

USA Basketball has picked its 12-man roster for the opening second-round window of World Cup qualifying, as the Americans look to move closer to clinching a spot in the field for next year’s event. Jim Boylen will return as coach, assisted again by Ty Ellis and Othella Harrington. The roster will include six players — Michael Frazier II, Langston Galloway, David Stockton, DaQuan Jeffries, John Jenkins and Eric Mika — who were with the Americans for the previous qualifying window in July.

Appearing on The Scoop podcast with Darren Wolfson of SKOR North and 5 Eyewitness News, Glen Taylor said new Wolves president of basketball operations Tim Connelly had his eye on multiple impact trade targets, but Gobert was his “number one option.” The input of head coach Chris Finch, who expressed confidence in his ability to use Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns, was also a key factor in Minnesota’s decision to pull the trigger on the blockbuster deal. “What I did when Tim and Chris talked to me about this trade is to ask (Finch) is there a system that he knows how to utilize these players,” Taylor said. “And he was very confident that he did understand how to utilize their skill sets, being two big guys. We talked about a lot, so he convinced me that this is something that is going to take us to a winning situation, and gave us the go-ahead to make the trade.”

Asked if he’d like to see D’Angelo Russell sign an extension before the season begins, Taylor said it might benefit both sides to hold off and see how the 2022/23 season goes. “(Finch) believes that with the new lineup, and with Russell in that lineup, that he’ll have a much better year just because of the way we’re going to play,” Taylor said. “He says he thinks there’s a big upside for Russell with this group of (players). The plan remains for Taylor to hand over control of the franchise to incoming owners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez in a little over a year. The Wolves’ longtime owner said he’s not having any regrets about giving up control of the team as it becomes a more legitimate contender. “No, I don’t have any second thoughts. Bogdanovic averaged 18.1 points and 4.3 rebounds in 2021-22 while shooting 38.7 percent from three. His defense was problematic enough, however, that the Utah Jazz were still 2.8 points per 100 possessions worse with Bogdanovic on the floor last season and an obscene 18.6 points per 100 possessions worse with him in the game during the playoffs.

This would be a massive disappointment for the Timberwolves after going all-in to acquire Rudy Gobert from the Jazz, especially after finishing with the seventh seed in the West last season.
But again, the Western Conference Playoff chase will be cutthroat.

Anthony Edwards should be a year better, Karl Anthony-Towns is a magnificent offensive player, while Gobert offers the best rim protection in the league.

However, head coach Chris Finch will have to prove he can make the pieces fit over an 82-game schedule with some questionable depth on the roster.

questionable depth? Gobert/Towns/Edwards/Russell/Reid/Anderson/Prince/McDaniels/Forbes/Nowell/Rivers/Paschall/Layman looks pretty good to me. Who else has got a big 4? Who is deeper than that? We hear every year how incredibly deep the Jazz are and they haven't been close to this roster with Gobert. They were a top 10 D last year without Gobert. They did lose a couple good defenders in the trade but it sounds like Russell was one of the guys who really bought in last year at that end.

It’s difficult to look at a roster that still features Donovan Mitchell, Bojan Bogdanovic, Mike Conley, Jordan Clarkson, Patrick Beverley, Malik Beasley, and Jarred Vanderbilt and expect it to finish with one of the three worst records in the West next season.

Draft Kings sportsbook places the Utah Jazz at 32.5 wins next season. Are Rudy Gobert and Royce O’Neale really worth 17 games? Those odds could change without any notice, so as soon as the Jazz make a move–if they ever do–the odds could shift depending on what the Vegas people think.

if Danny has his way it will be closer 40 games Gobert is worth. He was the franchise. They now suck.

The much more interesting calculation is the one made by the fine folks at ESPN. They seem to think the Utah Jazz will only win 26 games next year. That’s where the sportsbooks have the Oklahoma City Thunder. Even without Mitchell, I think the Jazz will be better than that.

The ESPN guestimate is very intriguing for me because ESPN is a news outlet. They have no money to make or gain based on how many people wager on the over or under from their number, so it stands to reason that 26 wins is a very unbiased number. That being said, if you can find a sportsbook that has the odds set in the twenties, I would jump right on that. As the Jazz currently sit, I think they could win 40 games.

The Jazz would get Myles Turner, one of the most promising young bigs in the league. They would also get Kevin Durant, who is perhaps the best player in the league and a top-15 player of all time. As payment, the Jazz would send Mike Conley, Jared Butler, Bojan Bogdanovic, Malik Beasley, and their entire cache of Minnesota picks, as well as the Royce O’Neale pick and either their 2027 or 2028 first-round pick.

He'd actually be a good fit with Vanderbilt to rebound and play inside on offense while Turner blocks shots and shoots 3's. Clarkson starts at the 2?

The Nets would also jump all over this trade. The franchise lost three first-rounders and swapped four picks with Houston to get James Harden, who isn’t even on the team anymore. The Rockets own the Nets’ future, so this pick would allow them to steal it back, and they wouldn’t have to worry about Durant sitting out next season if they don’t trade him.

Bogdanovic and Beasley allow the Nets to remain competitive. If Ben Simmons and Kyrie Irving stay in town next year, Bogdanovic and Beasley help round out the supporting cast of Joe Harris, Seth Curry, and Nic Claxton. They won’t be leading the East, but could still make some noise in the playoffs while having enough picks to slowly restock their roster.

The Jazz would have Jordan Clarkson, Jarred Vanderbilt, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Udoka Azubuike, and Leandro Bolmaro to round off the bench. If Azubuike and Vanderbilt can take a step forward next year, this would actually be one of the better benches in basketball.

why mention Bolmaro who has done nothing yet?

Even after Durant, Gay, and Beverly decline, the Jazz would still have a solid roster. Turner, Mitchell, and Clarkson would all still be solid players, and if the young bench guys develop, the Jazz actually could compete in the post-Durant years. The trade is very much directed at making the Jazz competitive now, but the team would get to keep some of their most promising young players, avoiding a total rehaul when Durant hangs it all up.

There are still some question marks surrounding this deal. First, would Durant even agree to play in Utah? He has made it clear he wants to go to Miami or Phoenix and chase a ring with minimal effort. In Utah, he would be the clear number one option, and Turner isn’t an All-Star, so Durant wouldn’t get the treatment he is used to.
