Default If Kobe replaced West on his teams from 1960 to 1974 how many rings does he win.

I say personally that Kobe wins 2 rings with West's teams from 1961 to 1974.

1960 -1961 Lakers with 1996-1997 Kobe they most likely miss the playoffs altogether.

1961-1962 Lakers with 1997-1998 Kobe they most likely lose in the first round.

1962-1963 Lakers with 1998-1999 Kobe they most likely lose in the first round.

1963-1964 Lakers with 1999-2000 Kobe they most likely lose in the first round.

1964-1965 Lakers with 2000-2001 Kobe they most likely lose in the first round.

1965-1966 Lakers with 2001-2002 Kobe they lose to Boston in the finals.

1966-1967 Lakers with 2002-2003 Kobe they lose to the 76ers in the finals.

1967-1968 Lakers with 2003-2004 Kobe they lose to Boston in the finals.

1968-1969 Lakers with 2004-2005 Kobe they lose to Boston in the finals.

1969-1970 Lakers with 2005-2006 Kobe they lose to New York in 5 games in the finals

1970-1971 Lakers with 2006-2007 Kobe they lose in the WCF to the Bucks in six or seven games.

1971-1972 Lakers with 2007-2008 Kobe they win the title as they did in real life.

1972-1973 Lakers with 2008-2009 Kobe they end up winning over 65 games and then repeating over New york in the finals.

1973-1974 lakers with 2009-2010 Kobe they lose to the Bucks

Speculating on what a guy who played 25 years later would do 60 years ago seems kinda silly.

It's tough to do this because you gotta ask how realistic we're trying to be? 2k or NBA? Alot of the guys playing now would lose a few go to moves and quickness because the handles and travels were called much more strictly. Alot of our great slashers and one on one guys would have been toned down a bit.

Is Kobe > West, really? West was a two guard who was an elite defender, clutch, and put up stellar numbers in the playoffs, finals, game 7s, and elimination games. Let's look at their stats from their primes:

    RS West '62-'73: 28/6/7 on 48% FGs, 82% FTHs
    RS Kobe '00-'13: 28/6/5 on 46% FGs, 84% FTHs

    PS West '62-'73: 30/5/7 on 47% FGs, 81% FTHs
    PS Kobe '00-'13: 28/5/5 on 45% FGs, 82% FTHs

FS West: 31/5/6 on 46% FGs, 83% FTHs
FS Kobe: 25/6/5 on 41% FGs, 85% FTHs

    Game 7s West: 31/7/8 on 48% FGs, 77% FTHs
    Game 7s Kobe: 22/8/5 on 39% FGs, 67% FTHs

Elimination West: 29/6/7 on 50% FGs, 80% FTHs
Elimination Kobe: 24/6/4 on 41% FGs, 77% FTHs

West benefited from a faster paced and less defensive league, so I think that has to be counted. However, there seems to be a big difference between West and Kobe in clutch games (finals, game 7s, elimination games).

We don't have steals and block totals for West since they started recording them in the '74 season. West played just 31 mpg that year and recorded 2.6 steals and 0.7 blocks. He was 35 years old. So what was he doing in his peak/prime? I can't prove it, but I have a feeling West might have been just as good of a defender as Kobe, and probably a better help defender.

I think Jerry West may have been Kobe's equal. It's just an unpopular opinion since it pre-dates the NBA/ABA merger. But if West was performing at a high level at the age of 35 (20/4/7/3 on 45%), then there's no question in my mind that he would have dominated post-merger.
