Basketball isn't as volatile as most sports so it doesn't matter in terms of evaluating how good a player was. Like in baseball it's pretty easy to have a single or multiple flukey seasons. Longevity matters there because you get a larger sample size.

But in basketball it doesn't matter except in terms of "career rankings" which is what basketball fans seems to be obsessed with more than other sports fans.

Duncan is the GOAT career longevity. 5 rings and never miss the playoff

Unlike Lebron 4 beta rings and leading the lakers to the lottery year after year

It clearly matters a lot otherwise Karl Malone wouldn’t be ranked that high

    Shortgevity hurts players like Jordone

    He's just not long enough.

Karl Malone certainly wouldn't be ranked above Bill Walton if it didn't matter, that's for sure.

Except Karl Malone's losses in the 1994 and 1995 playoffs when the Bulls didn't win. They certainly don't get hyped up, but quietly get swept under the rug, along with the 1994 and 1995 playoff losses of Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Reggie Miller, Payton/Kemp and whatever rest of jordon's mighty competition that failed to win in 1994 and 1995.

The only thing most of you need to know is that 4 rings in 13 seasons > 4 rings in 17 seasons.
