Michael Singer: Michael Malone said Jamal Murray participated in a lot of today’s practice. Said he really wanted to play Friday at GSW but it came down to risk/reward. Malone said come opening night at Utah, Murray “should be good to go.” Sounded like in limited minutes.

Michael Singer: Nikola Jokic said his wrist was fine. Of his wrap? “Maybe it’s a new trend.” Asked him if there was hesitation from 3 because of his wrist. He said no, the hesitation is because he hasn’t been hitting his shots.

Starting Beasley would place Clarkson in his familiar role as the sixth man and provide the Jazz with instant offense from the bench.
I think they want to separate Clarkson and Sexton like they had to with Mitchell

Analysis: He will provide leadership and experience based on his tenure in the league, and Coach Hardy will lean on his floor-general abilities. As the season progresses, expect Conley's minutes to decrease due to age and the emergence of newer and younger players adapting to Utah's system.

His minutes will decrease cuz he's on a better team hopefully. He's easily their best player still

Jordan Clarkson: 32-35 minutes per game.
be hard to win any games with him starting and playing big minutes. Ugly way to tank!

Analysis: The Jazz will need 'TBG' (The Bucket Getter) on full display every night, guiding the Jazz and keeping his stock rising across the league. The NBA is a business, and Clarkson could yield additional dividends in a trade. Early on, expect him to play all the minutes he can handle, whether as a starter or reserve.

I can only see his stock going down. He's awful!

Foul trouble may stymie some game minutes as Markannen will be tested as a small forward in this NBA. Notable small forwards Markanen will face are LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Jason Tatum, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and Khris Middleton. As long as Markkanen can avoid foul trouble, the minutes will be plentiful, and Jazz Nation could witness him receiving the Most Improved Player award.
might be on another team when he gets the award

Analysis: Olynyk boasts a legitimate skill set and will demand minutes as a rebounder, passer, and as a shooter who can stretch the floor. Foul issues may also hinder his minutes, but Markkanen can play his position. Olynyk has a respectable NBA resume so expect a sold 30 minutes on a nightly basis.

rebounder? He's got a high IQ. Smart player

Although Coach Hardy will welcome Vanderbilt's upside, his downside is easily replaceable. Even Vanderbilt's upside can be challenged by Markkanen, Olynyk, and newcomer Walker Kessler.
none of them do what he does. Despite playing big he's probably the only great rebounder on the team. Kessler might make a defensive impact that is comparable

Look for Sexton, Kessler, and Gay to begin the season by logging 20-25 minutes per game, with additional minutes being distributed to Alexander-Walker. Again, the game script could alter the predicted allotment of minutes.
Beasley? Udoka will play once he's able.

That's when it hit Clarkson: He had to initiate the offense.

    That was different.
looks exactly the same to me. Clarkson pounding the ball while everyone stands around watching. He pulls up for a horrible shot. Brick

"He's making extra passes for guys, doing things that I don't think he's really had to do throughout his career," Conley said. "You'd just go out there and say, 'JC, go score, go score, go score.'' And now it's like, 'Hey, we got a lot of guys that can do that. We need more ball movement', and he goes out there and he does it."
he could have always done those things instead he dribbles and bricks

At its essence, owner Ryan Smith and his team of executives broke up a virtual guaranteed playoff team, albeit one that never advanced beyond the second round, by trading All-Stars Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell. In return, the organization acquired financial flexibility and a host of draft picks stretching out over the next several years.
barely made the playoff last year

In Hardy's case, he will have ample time over the coming seasons to prove his merit. Much like during the Quin Snyder era, the roster's lack of talent will dictate looking beyond the team's record to make a legitimate assessment on Hardy's ability to coach.
Gobert can play. Not sure COTM can coach though

Except in rare instances, usually involving future Hall of Fame players, youth doesn't win in the NBA. It's easy to understand Hardy's choice to go with veterans, but the decision may not be in the organization's best interests.
got to play them to trade them

From a competitive standpoint, Hardy also must guard against doling out undeserved playing time for the sake of developing young players. He needs to set the standard that all minutes are earned without any entitlement.
and that appears to be the case so far. Luckily Hardy played at a small school and they likely won't have anyone from his alma mater to get playing time just because like Hood and Grayson did

Smith made it very clear that no matter what Utah's new broadcasting deal ends up being, there will be more streaming options for fans of his team. Smith's looking to create a better experience for those that are watching at home — something he said team CEO Danny Ainge, who doesn't travel with the team, reminds him often as Ainge watches games from home.
At least you're doing something Danny. Having any fun yet?

"I think it's an exciting time to be a Jazz fan," Smith said Tuesday. "I really do. … We've got a group of players who are hungry. There's an energy, there's an excitement, there's exciting players. We're young, but we also have a group of veterans, which is kind of unique. And I think we've got one of the most exciting young coaches in the league.
Clarkson is starting. Anything but exciting

"Let's just be honest, we're a team and a city that has got to build through the draft," Smith said. "We have to. You look at Donovan (Mitchell), you look at Rudy (Gobert), look who we drafted, that's where we've basically created these people that our fan base loves."
you created them? Like Sloan did for Stockton and Malone?

Walker Kessler – The rookie center was acquired in the Gobert trade and was the Jazz most promising first-year player in each of the four preseason games.
He played the most because of lack of depth. Not sure that makes him more promising than the lottery pick

Although the Jazz front office has not commented on this specifically, but a big reason why certain teams are in a rebuild is because of 2023 NBA Draft prospect Victor Wembanyama from France. The 7’4 big man is projected to be a generational talent in the NBA. Wembanyama and his Paris-based team faced the G League Ignite in a pair of exhibition games in the United States earlier this month. Ainge hasn’t had a chance to see Wembanyama in person, yet.
sounds like Ainge likes the 2024 draft more but I think that was with high schoolers and that doesn't sound like it's happening now

If the Jazz go under 23 wins, they will need to get absolutely crushed during the first three months of the season while they still play their best veteran talent like Mike Conley and Kelly Olynyk. The incredibly difficult first segment of Utah’s season might oblige that.
you do realize Clarkson is starting for the Jazz? Hard to imagine them winning many games with him starting

Having all their main rotation guys available is the ideal situation if the Jazz are looking to win the game, but it will also keep the Jazz from being able to play some of the young players they received in their blockbuster trades. Players like Walker Kessler and Ochai Agbaji need a chance to get on the floor. What’s the most likely scenario? The Jazz are probably going to allow Will Hardy to coach like he’s competing for the playoffs. If anything, this season is as much a chance for Hardy to develop as a coach as it is for the players. After a third of the season, if the losses have racked up, the Jazz will likely move some of the veterans to make sure the younger players get more minutes.
and there is the Stars until the vets are moved.

Michael Scotto: Sources: The Minnesota Timberwolves have waived forward Eric Paschall, @********* has learned. In three NBA seasons, Paschall has averaged 9.8 points on 49.4 percent shooting.
