Lebron has been incredibly lucky avoiding injuries and being in good shape. As others have noted, if he pushes for 45k I don't think anyone will break that record.

Yeah, I didn't even factor in him playing beyond this year tbh. We haven't even seen the guy drop below 25 ppg since his rookie year He shows no signs of slowing down scoring wise, and, barring injury of course, could legitimately average 25+ ppg for at least the next couple of seasons, if not more. He could get to 45k when it's all said and done.

Forever if his longevity so far is any indication.

Gonna take some serious advancements in gene editing for anybody to have a shot in the future. But when everybody is playing for 30 years instead of 15, thats a whole different record altogether.

So the only way it actually gets broken is thru scientific advancements far beyond what we've seen thus far and a much larger gap than what we've seen from the 60s until now.

LeBron is the king forever no matter what.

I was hoping he would break the record on an East Coast game...but looks like it might literally be against OKC which is a 10:30pm ET start time.

Probably my least favorite thing about Lebron's move to the Lakers is having so many west coast games.

The idea is to have Kevin Durant to break it after Lebron retires.

It won't be broken unless there's another shift in overall longevity. Players seem to play longer than 20, 30 or 40 years ago and yet Lebron is still an outlier longevity wise.

If he retires at 44K points... he'll have it forever.

At 44K points a player would have to score:

    30ppg for 19 seasons averaging 75 games a season.

    or

25 ppg, for 23.5 seasons at 75 games a season.

Until we develop the technology to slow down aging.

Seriously though, more and more players are realizing they make more money throughout their careers if they play 40-50 games per season for 17 years vs 70 per season for 14. And with the money players make now, more and more will retire before their actual age forces them to, which is relevant since KAJ's record was probably money driven in the first place.

He didn't know yet that Collins had invested a significant sum of the athlete's money in real estate deals that started crumbling in 1984 and 1985. In 1986 Abdul-Jabbar had an independent audit of his finances and found out that he was liable for $9 million in debt. Collins was fired.

Does KD have a shot? Seems low but...he's already shooting up the scoring list. Wouldn't surprise me if he passed Jordan.

It will never be broken. Ever.

By the end of LeBron's career he'll have between 40k-45k points.

To get to 40k, someone will have to average at least 27 ppg over a span of at least 22 seasons WHILE playing an average of 70 games per year. That will never happen. We will never see a player dominate this late into their career or have this type of longevity.

Enjoy the GOAT while he's here

He'll get to 30k but he won't be anywhere near LeBron's record

If they are thinking of changing the regular season to less games, then I don't see how.

Steph Curry has as many titles in less seasons and beat Lebron head to head 3 times without switching teams and came to a losing organization. Lebron isn't even GOAT in his own era.

KD had a chance but he's too injury prone, hasn't played 70+ games since 2018
