Default Lucky there was no social media.

David Robinson scores 71 to win a scoring title

And 6 days later has 12 points on 2/14 shooting in the playoffs in a loss while being outscored by teammates Dennis Rodman(14/17/4 blocks/2 steals) and Negele Knight who led the team with 16. He then scored 16 the next game in another loss as the entire team scored 72(Rodman suspended) and lost by 30 something.

That would have been ugly in the Twitter era.

The Tragic Johnson situation where he dribbled out the end of a finals game would have been pretty epic as well:

If I remember he was going for the scoring title and shaq played his last game already. It was vs the clippers who were the worst team in the league and before the game even started the team agreed to feed Robinson for the entire game.

It’s hard to hate on David Robinson but he has had a few rough moments. He got his fair amount of shit even before social media though.

I saw a clip saying Sterling personally told the staff not to put the best defenders on him to bring the scoring title to the west. Weird thing to care about but Sterling was weird.

With the hype that Magic had at the time, I definitely agree that the "Tragic Johnson" moment would have been brutal had social media existed back then, especially losing to a rival in Bird and the Celtics. At that moment, the Lakers organization had never defeated the Celtics in the Finals in its history, and Magic (along with Worthy) blew it. There would have been a lot of "Magic is not clutch like Bird", and "Magic is a choker" talk despite already having two rings and two FMVPs.

This thread brings to mind a thread I created about Moses Malone going to the 1983 Sixers. If social media existed back then and players were judged the way they are today, I truly question how that move would be viewed.

Also, in terms of the weakness of conferences, I wonder how the 1987 Lakers championship run would be viewed in the modern era of social media.

    1st round
    Denver Nuggets
    35-47 record

    WCSF
    Golden State Warriors
    42-40 record

    WCF
    Seattle Supersonics
    39-43 record

Patrick Ewing missing that finger roll in game 7.
    Isiah turnover vs Celtics.
Pippen not going in the game and Toni hitting that shot. This one would probably be the worst yikes. Lol.

Jerry West would have been eviscerated on social media, 0-8 against the Celtics

Wilt would’ve had a lot of tough times too.

Let’s not forget Kareem missing the playoffs b2b years in his prime, one of them an MVP campaign.
