Default What is your ideal life?

Simple question - but probably layered.
Is there a set amount of properties you want? Number of days a week you work? Retirement age? Salary? Kids?

I thought I had most things fairly set, but then we get hit with crazy inflation, etc. Was pretty happy at work and the level of stress involved in my job - but now more money is needed for bills and groceries - so ended up getting a new role with a $30k pay bump.

For me, ultimately want to be retired between 40-45.
Working towards that now by building several investment accounts - and close to paying of PPOR in early 30s.
Rental crisis in Australia is crazy at the moment. 2 bed 2 bath apartments - 10 miles out of the city are going for $650 per week.

Retirement at 40-45 with 3 rental properties - earning $100k + is achievable. Then other passive incomes on the side as gravy on top.
1 or 2 kids and that should be enough.

White picket fence lifestyle. Consulting work when needed or when you feel like post 40.

Just wondering how inflation settles and if in 10 years time you'd need to do a drastic alignment of expectations again. Currently they recommend $68k a year for a couple with no bills (PPOR paid off - no mortgage) for a nice retirement in Australia.

Bro your plan sounds like something from a 1990s infomercial.

I think youre underestimating how drastically society and economics are going to continue changing year after year from this point.

We’re entering a completely new paradigm, and it’s going to morph and shift at increasing rates. Bedrock social concepts that were standard for the last 300 years or more are gonna be obsolete in less than 25 years from now.

Whatever you think you have planned 10 years from now… will probably turn out to be preposterous and not even on the table in 10 years from now.

If you wanna invest in something, invest in knowledge/information.

I happen to know a guy who’s fairly adept in these things and he could make ya a deal.

    PM me for details.

There is stability and there is luxury... and there is also being broke.

I've never really been the type to need luxury... I like having a few nice things, but for me personally... I just need some stability

and stability is basically spending less than you earn... if you can maintain spending less than you make, you are stable.

retirement: i would love to retire by 50 with some form of passive income to ride into the sunset. i'd sell my company before retiring.

property: i'd be happy with just my home. i don't see the purpose of having more than one. i am not the type to manage a property as a form of investment. nor do i have the patience to deal with tenants.

I would love to open a classic car restoration garage...but the mexicans i know that are really good at it, are down in mexico lol. they're fukkin good at it though. and classic cars are a hobby of mines.

a simple and relatively tech free life - living on at least a couple rural acres with my wife and kids, growing most of my own food and acquiring the rest from members of my local community, working a job that is "remote" or independent... I dont really want a lot and im not that far from achieving it

Have a wonderful house at beach front or along river side with very minimal neighbors. Have a continious cash flow from my businesses.

    Travel is a great one.

My missus and I have been taking 4 week holidays every year now to a continent and exploring. And it is a great way to just reset life and forget about things. Really clear your head. I feel like that stuff adds years on to your life - but you just can't quite quantify it at this stage. Not just that - memories are great in this regard.

As far as social circles go, I prefer on the smaller side. A few friends, but I don't mind having a tonne of buds/mates. I feel like my life is setup that way atm, and it is perfect.

Cars is another good one I forgot. It is probably the only thing that I'd splurge on. I know some people like fashion, tech, etc. But for me, just a nice play car. Everything else I'm so basic on - but I really enjoy just driving.

Good to hear. Living off the land is something that I want to strive for, but I heard it is quite costly to get to the point where you don't really need to buy produce any more. I'll probably just continue to pay a crazy amount for all organic stuff since my missus loves it.

in terms of lifestyle, what people my age have is fair, in terms of properties, my contribution to the society,

here's the catch, even if the very idea of property means something to be as available as possible, just like public transportation, people still won't use them due to their inherent defined maintenance

if your mind is a prison, you must be having sex, in order to not live an ideal life.

    I'll chimes in my thoughts..
Everyone , even the people that we assume have the ideal life , are always looking for more. THAT IS A FACT.
Until you find contentment your always looking for more.
People that are minimalists probably have a better grip on happiness then the guy that has everything.
Materialistically at the age of 30 I had my best career job - very challenging and rewarding , a lake home , a great hunting dog , and a thoroughbred horse.
Driving home from the stable I thought to my self I have everything I could ever want (was not married) and thought if my life ended right then I felt I was
content. (In the back of my mind I knew there was something else but over all I was purely happy , just like a child)
I had already loved 2 woman... so knowing what love is , is important in life.
Retired now finishing my life - I am finding a balance of contentment and happiness. The challenge this year in my old athletic body is to complete a dogs
training for a European Utility test and a Bear hunt this coming Sept , behind hounds.
My advise to you all , there's only one thing in life that really matters = happiness.
(does not matter if you push a broom or are prez of a company)

Yeah its very tough to truly live 100% off the land, especially if you are navigating your food journey without outside help

I am currently living about 60-70% off my land, and get another 20-30% from neighboring farms and farmers markets... the last 10% comes from the grocery store and I doubt I will ever be able to get away from them entirely.

Anyway I totally believe in organic in theory and my garden is 100% organic, but at the supermarket being "organic" doesnt mean as much IMO ... the highest quality produce and meat your best bet is your local farmers market, it costs money to be certified organic but the best and cleanest produce and meat typically comes from small farms who cant be bothered to get that certification.
