Default Could guards who cant shoot win MVP in today's NBA?

3 notable non-shooting former MVP'S who come to mind are Iverson, Westbrook and Rose. All great scorers but sub-par shooters. With the important of the 3 point shot in today's NBA, do you think non-shooting guards could win an MVP?

Do you think prime Rose, Iverson or Westbrook could win an MVP today?

Honestly Westbrook isn't that far off from what he was when he won the MVP, its just the game has changed that much and he can't shoot for shit.

I think Morant is capable of winning the MVP but even he shoots better then Iverson, Westbrook and Rose

In the right situation, yes, more than ever in the modern era. I can't think of many teams that ever had five outside threats starting and if your Cs and PFs, they could easily accommodate a poor shooting guard.

Could they win MVP and could they deserve MVP are two different things.

Both are conceivable, but winning it is especially conceivable given the media’s notorious lack of ability to evaluate players properly anyway.

The spacing offered by teammates all being able to shoot 3s would give game breaking lanes to rose and Iverson.

Prime Rose played with Keith Bogans, Carlos boozer, and Noah in his starting lineup. 0 spacing. Iverson played with Eric snow, mutumbo, and Aaron mckie.

Eye test Rose and Iverson were like souped up versions of morant... so they'd still be making things happen.

It’s hard to even imagine AI with 4 shooters, hands off rules, and freedom of movement off the ball. People maybe 70% his speed are impossible to keep in front of you. He’d be taking more free throws than Harden was without needing to fall on every 3 pointer to do it.

Iverson is defiantely NOT souped up version of Morant. Rose is similiar, stronger and quicker then Morant, but Morants top speed is equal to Rose and he shoots better. Prime Westbrook was a bigger stronger version of Iverson.

Its shitloads of people in the NBA quicker then Iverson. Westbrook even now is quicker then Prime Iverson

Iverson could shoot, in fact got most his points in the midrange.

Why not? Rose between 2019-23 is shooting nearly 36% from three point range. Players evolve and if the style of play emphasizes more threes, then guys like Rose would adapt. If Rose himself has adapted (at the age of 30-34), with all of the injuries and minus the athleticism, then why would't he do it at the age of 25 during his peak? If anything, he'd probably shoot closer to 40%.

Meh, once the rules changed he was a 54.6% TS player and he wasn't even at his peak by then.

Iverson was so much better than you guys give him credit for. I've said it before, but he accomplished as much as Durant has in his career, outside Durant's Warriors years...he was really really really freaking good.

DPOY plus top-10 in scoring is borderline MVP.

shooting is when you clock the tempo, it doesn't control the tempo.

    you run out of air.

was about to post this. old AI was scoring efficiently as soon as they changed defensive rules on hand checking. prime AI in todays freedom of movement and space and pace game he would have over 60% TS. would be shooting more 3’s of course too. He was a good shooter he could get it up to 35% at least. Possibly a little higher.

Due to Rose lack of athleticism, he had to develop a 3 point shot, which he wouldn't have done pre-injury

Iverson was not a good 3 point shooter, he had a nice midrange shot though.
