Default Dallas reportedly will not sign and trade Kyrie anywhere. Would you?

I know it’s hard to separate your opinion of Kyrie as a person or a player from the decision, but I’d like to ask you about sign and trades as a concept. When you are losing a star for absolutely nothing, and all you can do is reduce his compensation on the team he is leaving you for is that worth whatever you can get in exchange?

For a real world example, both LeBron and Bosh were technically traded to the heat. Even with the ridiculous letter and being all upset Gilbert allowed a sign and trade. Wasn’t for much. One of the draft picks ended up being Jae Crowder. But it’s something. And the pick the heat sent the Raptors actually ended up being top 5 and turned into Jonas Valanciunas(it was a pick the heat had from somebody else). Never know what those picks become. The Suns got the pick that became Mikal Bridges from the Nash sign and trade to LA then traded him for Durant 10 years later.

what is the benefit of letting hurt feelings reduce potential compensation? In Cubans case I can almost understand because if Kyrie is helped to go to another team, that is a contender, you could see Luka feeling some kind of way having to watch it.

But if he’s leaving, no matter what? You kind of have to get a couple picks don’t you?

Mavs have all the leverage. If I’m Cuban, it’s Anthony Davis or let Kyrie walk for nothing. If Kyrie walks by the way he can’t sign with LA since they are over the cap.

The same mindset netted Cleveland the number one pick from Minnesota for Kevin Love. Cuban understands the Mavs have something the Lakers want and he always swings for the big name stars. Leverage is powerful.

But you dont really KNOW if he’s willing to actually leave money on the table unless you refuse to accommodate him, no?

If you agree to the trade it immediately guarantees you lose the guy. If you dont agree, he could still decide not to pass the money up.

That said, I hope the Mavericks are just playing hardball to get better trade offers.

If they actually wanna keep this loser theyre beyond pathetic.

sign and trade is similar to a parents going through a divorce but files for joint custody

not an issue in todays world, where kids are driven by the force of not wanting to be bored.

Would anyone put it past Kyrie in such a situation where spite has already entered the chat from the teams side to just agree to the deal, and do a press tour, praising Dallas, and then simply not show up for training camp, and demand a trade, knowing that even if you suspend him forever and don’t pay him, you have tied up the cap room for absolutely nothing in return?

A 40 million cap hold pretty much guarantees you don’t get enough help for Luka to be interested in an extension doesn’t it? Who has the leverage then?

Maybe Kyrie isn’t that devious but I sure would be once I absolutely didn’t need the money and we were having a spite off.

You would meet King Petty ****ing with me.

If theyre dumb enough to put a beehive in their house, they deserve to be stung.

If they sign Irving I HOPE he turns around spites and humiliates them. Which he will.

That's a foolish stance. Of course they should be open to dealing him. They should be actively encouraging a market with competing offers to be their trade partner. Nothing about their last season results was promising, he likely doesn't want to be there if he's going to Laker games and they could potentially get multiple starters, draft picks, good rotation players, etc. But it's better to lose him for nothing? Don't ask the Nets their opinion because they probably wish they had never signed him themselves.

outside of rule changes, people don't have a say over the supply/demand of players at each position, but last I checked, to say there's a shortage of people for a league that constitutes to about .000000000000000001% of the population would be absurd

    Since Kyrie joined Dallas...
    10 wins
    18 losses
    28 games total

    When Kyrie plays...
    8 wins
    12 losses

Of course Dallas is going to say they have no interest in a sign & trade with Kyrie. Since when do teams announce major moves that are can be detrimental to the team.

To think Cuban will sabotage his own team due to spite? You get solid rotational players and draft picks.

Cuban is a business man, he already ****** up by letting go of Brunson. Giving away Dinwiddie, Finnie-Smith, 1st rd pick, 2nd round picks for a failed 2 month rental for Irving?

So some of you are saying let Kyrie walk lol. Luka will ve walking next!.........The Lemental's thinking power overwhelming.

Giving away pieces and not getting anything in return and Mav's stay losing, you will have a even more disguntled Doncic if he isnt already. Guaranteed Luka leaving Dallas if Cuban continues fumbling the bag.

Couldn't another team step in to s&t Kyrie for assets/pick in return? He is a free-agent so doesn't have to be Dallas, right?
