Ive been consistently amazed throughout my life at how rarely the mainstream discussion focuses on the future. People are always reacting to whats already happened, and is currently in the headlines. Seldom does discussion center around the long term course of something and the impact its trajectory will have.

If you told people in 1940 what modern society would look like - technologically, politically, economically - and they knew for a fact it was true… their minds would be melted. Itd be all theyd ever talk about. How insanely different everything is going to be. It would dominate the headlines. It would be THE issue of debate.

But absent some mystical force coming and proving it to people directly, nobody seems to spend much time thinking on their own about what’s coming.

It’s not going to be long before people are electively replacing their own legs with genetically enhanced legs that operate the same way but never cramp. And can jump higher than anyone today. And are longer if they want, increasing height. Gene editing is just starting to hit the incline of the ‘S’ curve which means its about to undergo exponential development.

Blood doping may not just be for athletes looking to get an edge anymore. It could be routine, helping people shave off an hour or two of sleep each night to be more productive while staying physically fresh (this may not be possible its a hypothetical illustration.) Who will wanna be an athlete limited by an antiquated doping policy when you could get so many benefits to your life doing it as a non athlete?

The NBA cant really ban genetic enhancement, once it’s a mainstream thing NBA players will have to use it just to avoid literally falling behind Lebron23 in basketball ability. Who’s gonna watch pro athletes perform that are worse than every guy walking around your neighborhood? Unlike steroids which typically only have practical value for already serious competitive athletes, gene editing will be common among the general public. Who wouldnt wanna jump around like a grasshopper? Anyone in society - (who can afford it, and therein lies a critical issue) - will be a better athlete than LeHung James if they want to be.
