It looks like the whole thing was a long Reebok Commercial.
After Nike had such a huge success with Michael Jordan, they had to do something.
Reebok made a huge show with their pump Shoes.

A few years ago, Spudd Webb brought the House down because of his small height the people were going crazy.
It was like a Cinderella Story. I think they wanted to repeat this in a similar subject.

I watched the Dunk Contest several times.
When Shawn Kemp made those legendary Dunks the Commentators were very silent and be like "That was a nice Dunk, it was ok".
But on every normal Dee Brown Dunk there were screaming and yelling.

Crazy thing was Shawn wound up getting big money from Reebok anyways. Probably more Reebok money than Dee Brown ever got.
