Fouls in the All-Star Game
I looked back every 10 years to the sixties:
1964 - 49 fouls called
1974 - 46
1984 - 54
1994 - 44
2004 - 25
2014 - 21
2024 - 3
So what happened between 94 and 04? And again between 04 and now?

It's become a glorified 3PT shootaround. When was the last time we saw a real hard foul in ASG? The one I can think of is when Wade broke Kobe's nose in 2012 (I'm sure there's been more).

There hasn't been anything as gay as the NBA all-star game on TV since Queer as Folk was on Showtime.
Most rediculous thing of all time. Looks like a bunch of showgirls being told how pretty they are during the pregame introductions.

Between 94 and 04, the pace was slower and hand checking still in effect.
Three points hadn't taken off.
94 = 30 (24 from East, Scottie Pippen attemps 9 of them thangs!)
04 = 46 (Ray Allen only shot 4, Baron Davis shot 6)
14 = 100 (Steph Curry first All-Star game, attemps 11)

It’s only as gay as you want it to be.
It’s ridiculously soft and lazy, imho a total casual Sunday morning ymca 40+ low energy scrimmage … but gay ? Nah lol

Nah the league is pretty gay now. Look at how the players carry themselves at these events. Look at how they dress.
Every game and every telecast has like it's own little fashion show going on now.

It stopped being a competition under the logic "well we don't want anybody to get hurt in the 1 out of 80-100 games this season". It's the same reason we have load management. When a 200 million dollar contract is on the line players dont care about winning a basketball game as much.

This is probably the truth.
As fans we tend to be hypocrites sometimes. We want them to give it their all in the all-star game, but if someone were to get seriously hurt we would all be saying, "Why is he going so hard for the all-star game!?!?"
Fans and the media have expressed they care about being healthy for the playoffs above all else. This is the bed we made unfortunately.

Here were the average number of fouls called in each decade in a regular season game:
60s - 52
70s - 49
80s - 50
90s - 45
00s - 44
10s - 41
20s - 38
Trend is clearly down, markedly so from the 80s to the 90s (pace?), and then again since the 10s (3 pt explosion?).
But here’s the differential between the regular season and all star game. All are lower in the all-star game:
60s - 3
70s - 3
80s - 4
90s - 1
00s - 19
10s- 20
This year - 35

The NBA has become a bunch of dudes trying to manage a load.

Titles are overrated
Re: Fouls in the All-Star Game
Somewhere along the lines they decided fans wanted to see 150 threes just because they cheer when a tough one goes in.

Re: Fouls in the All-Star Game
The most competitive I've seen the All Star game is the 4th quarter when they played to 24 or something after Kobe passed. Guys were actually playing defense and playing like a real game.

Guys will sit out the playoffs too if it means preserving themselves to get another big bag. Look at Kawhi... by the end of his career his load management and sitting out playoffs every year probably netted him an extra 200+ million dollars.

Re: Fouls in the All-Star Game
