Rudy Gobert's behavior over the last couple of seasons didn't do him any favors, nor did his constant whining off the court about awards he didn't get. He rubbed players like Donovan Mitchell the wrong way and it all led to the team realizing they couldn't continue with either man on the team.
He should have been whining a lot sooner. When you make a bad team good they should build the team around you. Closest they got to that was with Joe Johnson and Boris Diaw. Mitchell never fit. If they'd been smart they'd have traded him. Be one of the top teams in the league right now even with Hardy though COTM would probably still be here?

Trey Lyles didn't like Salt Lake City, claiming it was just a place for "families" and word was that Lyles didn't like the club scene in the area. Lyles also admitted to not liking to work hard and was nonplussed when Richard Jefferson, who was interviewing Lyles at the time, mentioned the weather and fans as pluses for being in Salt Lake City. Maybe if he practiced harder, the former lottery pick wouldn't be just a bench guy for the Sacramento Kings.
I read only Hayward worked harder when he was here? The fact that he never seemed to live up to his potential I'd guess that was wrong. Seemed to be all down hill after they put the ball in his hand in summer league after his rookie year. Thought he was Kobe after that

Another defacto lazy player, who didn't like playing in Salt Lake City, and hated being held to a higher standard than he held himself, Enes Kanter requested a trade after being in the league just over three seasons and amounting to nothing during that time. He rubbed his teammates in Utah so badly, that when Kanter's new team, the Thunder and the Jazz first met after Kanter's departure, every starter on the Jazz ignored him just prior to tip-off while acknowledging the rest of the Thunder's starting five. He even went on to say that the Jazz weren't professionals.
Gobert took his job. Cut him some slack!

It doesn't help his case that his ex-wife has even accused him of exploiting his daughter's illness either. Not to mention, Fisher's reputation has been in a nose dive since he retired, namely cheating on his wife, while dating his ex-teammates and then soon-to-be-ex-wife. The fallout of that affair further highlighted Fisher's lies, as he had told the New York Knicks, the team he was coaching at the time, that he was away seeing families, but instead, the affair led to a fight with Matt Barnes and in turn revealed he wasn't with his family like he had said. He was subsequently fired as Knicks head coach.
thing is they were better off without him his contract and Sloan thinking he was a starting 2 guard!

Why a trade? Turns out that raise never came. Boozer never got an offer on par with what he was making at the time and so he did everything he could to make more money. Even if meant lying through his teeth. Bleacher Report called him a two-faced, master manipulator and then claimed he only played for the money.
again good riddance. Millsap and AK were better not the Jazz had a clue

Mitchell abruptly ended a string of playoff success that many thought was only going to get better, and had the Jazz made the Gobert trade, and somehow still landed Lauri Markkanen, it likely would've been better than ever with a starting five of Mike Conley, Donovan Mitchell, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Markkanen and then-rookie Walker Kessler. The Jazz superstar opted to not see what the franchise could do about reloading the roster for another deep run after a Gobert trade and made it clear he wasn't going to stick around once his deal was up.
Again good riddance. Too bad they didn't keep Gobert and contend

Hayward is still playing, and well, but a reunion doesn't seem to be in the cards.
with Ainge here who knows? I think it would be funny. He wanted to play elsewhere. Get over it!

It was also one of the worst-performing super teams of all time. The Lakers were carried by Bryant, with O'Neal, and Malone looking like shells of themselves. The team fell to the star-less Detroit Pistons, and Malone quietly retired after.
Stockton was gone. Why stay? He was great on the Lakers. Kobe not so much

It was never going to happen. He had declined significantly at his age and was barely good enough to be a rotational player. That didn't stop him from sowing dissent among the disgruntled bench players. The locker room became split due to Jackson's meddling, forcing teammates to choose sides.
He was one of John's best backups. Didn't know about the other stuff at the time. **** him!

Williams demanded a trade, and was granted his request ending up in New Jersey with the Nets, and then with Sloan retiring mid-season, having had enough of the nonsense. Many people, rightfully so, blamed Williams for pushing Sloan to retirement, something he's taken some responsibility for over the years.
Probably a good thing. Not sure he wasn't already in decline of his mental state

Mix in John Collins, Jordan Clarkson, and Collin Sexton either as featured roster players or trade pieces, plus additions through the draft and free agency, and the Jazz should be able to avoid the disastrous 7-16 start they had to open this season.
    STILL HAVE THE SAME COACH

Taylor Hendricks - Are the concerns about him being a bust already fair?

Walker Kessler - Is his ceiling really just Rudy Gobert 2.0?
Gobert is the 3rd best player in franchise history so if Kessler gets anywhere near him we should all be singing his praises. A long ways to go

In the entire history of the Jazz, they have landed only a handful of transformative players — Karl Malone, John Stockton, Mark Eaton, Darrell Griffith, Dominique Wilkins (for another team) …

well obviously but as long as Hardy is coach don't expect it. I'm guessing if they keep their pick they'll be looking for a center. Agbaji wasn't a Hardy fave and neither is Kessler. Danny didn't draft him

I'd take a look. I'm guessing they may have cut him because he wants to go overseas and play more though?

But then the schedule turned, guys got healthy, and Will Hardy tinkered with the rotation. The result was Utah’s best stretch, a 15-4 spell with offensive and defensive production in the top third of the league. The opponents were also weaker as a whole, and even some of the tougher foes were without superstars in their games against the Jazz, but this is when the Jazz were clicking.
he was forced to tinker with the lineup because of injuries. Dunn and Sexton should have been starting all along. Simone not ideal as a starter but better than 3 bigs though he's really a big in today's game. The Bum came back and has played more than Sexton and Dunn's minutes remain limited since. The main reasons they suck

Not surprisingly, the guards are the primary culprits, with seven turnovers per game coming from Collin Sexton (2.6), Jordan Clarkson (2.3) and Keyonte George (2.1). That’s pretty standard: most teams’ primary sources of miscues are the guys who handle the ball most often, but obviously some turnovers (and even some misses) are more likely to create transition defense challenges. Opponents’ transition frequency off steals is 7.5% higher when George is on court versus when he’s off, and it’s 5.3% higher with Clarkson playing. Off of misses, opponents are most often running against lineups involving Kris Dunn (+5.2%). For whatever reason, teams are less likely to run in both scenarios when Sexton is playing.
George and The Bum. Same as before they were hurt and the team started playing better. Sexton misses closer to the rim and gets back fast if he does?

There’s no hard-and-fast solution here, other than “play better.” Or perhaps more precisely: “make fewer weird offensive plays so you give the defense a chance.”
bench The Bum would do wonders but who wants to win games and play their best players?

“Seasons are long, it’s 82 games. We don’t need to have a meeting every day. Sometimes things don’t go your way, sometimes you have a tough game, sometimes decisions are made from a lineup standpoint that are outside of your control.”

-Will Hardy, on talking guys through changes and challenges
need some more lineup changes out of the coaches control!

“We’ve changed the lineup a lot since I’ve been here,” the coach said somewhat wryly. He added that whenever they do, it’s with the same goal in mind: “Let’s look at who’s in the locker room tonight and let’s try to make that group function as best as we can for 48 minutes.”
and yet The Bum continues to kill the team in big minutes night after night while Sexton, Dunn and Kessler sit! Sensabaugh looking like a guy that needs more minutes now

Sexton is up to 44% on catch-and-shoot threes, narrowly edging Lauri Markkanen and Dunn for the best mark on the team.
so why is the teams best defender and playmaker not playing more if shooting isn't his problem?

Worst performance: Jordan Clarkson was 3-of-10 overall and went 0-of-3 from deep. Though he did dish out eight assists, he finished the night with just six points, well below what the Jazz would normally need from him.
what they need is for him not to be on the team. Killed them all year long. Take Hardy with him please!

Mitchell going was a good thing. Should have happened long before. Never fit with their best player. Rudy with Lauri and Sexton though?

Jazz Mailbag 2.0: Can You Have Too Many Young Players?
let's ask The Wizard what he thinks!

For the season, they’ve hit 35.8 percent of their threes, good for eighth-worst in the league.
when the guy shooting the most is under 30% what do you expect?

While the 20-year-old has plenty of room to grow into a more well-rounded basketball player, his three-point efficiency could be his ticket onto the floor.
he's been one of their best players. Needs to play more. **** Hardy and The BUM!

With their other draft picks around this same time, the Jazz also selected Gordon Hayward and Alec Burks in the late lottery. Hayward came via a pick they received in a 2004 salary dump trade with Phoenix, and Burks was taken with their own 2011 draft pick. This was the original youth movement. Before Burke arrived as the last piece, Jazz fans labeled the quartet a “Core Four,” and Burke’s arrival turned them into a “Core Five.” In the next draft, Utah added Rodney Hood and Dante Exum, too! The future looked bright with the keys to the franchise in the hands of the young guns.
would have been a shit show with the emergence of Rudy!

until he retires and his number is in the rafters apparently. If sub 30% from 3 doesn't end your career nothing will

"The Jazz made the surprising move to keep Clarkson at the trade deadline despite the team seeming destined to fall out of the West play-in picture. There could have been a financial reason for this, however. While Utah used some of their 2023-24 cap space to give Clarkson a raise, his $23.5 million salary this year falls all the way to $14.1 million in 2024-25 with another reasonable $14.3 million coming the season after. This should make the 31-year-old guard far easier to trade simply from a salary-matching standpoint... Barring a big trade, the Jazz won't be ready to go on a playoff run anytime soon. Moving Clarkson to a contender is probably something that should have been done at the deadline and will almost certainly be orchestrated this summer."
coming off his worst season in at least half dozen years or more. Someone really wants him other than Hardy?

He's not just trying to fix the squad and get them to play well, he's also doing all this while replacing Quinn Snyder, who was one of the franchise's best head coaches ever. Hardy's task is just getting harder and harder and we hope that Ainge can finally stop making it more difficult to succeed.
COTM sucked but does indeed look great compared to Hardy. Ainge needs to either Hardy proff the roster some how or get rid of him. They've played well when he had Conley and when he was forced to play guys because of injuries. He sucks!
