Default Who deserves more credit for this Celtics roster: Ainge or Stevens

Ainge sent the haul that gave the Celtics the picks to draft Brown and Tatum.

Brad acquired the pieces to help solidify this team, including getting rid of Smart, which many Celtics fans disagreed with at the time.

Lots of credit can go both ways. Who do you think deserves more credit?

Brown and Tatum are not that good as far as superstar duo goes.

It's more about getting Derrick White, Porzingis, Jrue.

I'm not sure who's a truly better GM but when it come to trades Ainge should be forced to use lubricant. To build these Celtics he didn't just get good players but he set Brooklyn and Philly backwards. Both of those teams arguably should have Tatum and Brown right now. Philly not having Brown can't really be accredited to Ainge but can you imagine what Embiid does with Tatum and Harden? It can't be denied that Ainge laid the contender foundation and is also somewhat responsible for the East not having a competitor. So I still give Ainge more credit even though there's nothing I fault Stevens for.

Horford is credited to Ainge in terms of this Roster. the only thing Stevens have left to prove, is the amount of value he can generate from 2nd rounders and late 1st.

NBA conspired to stack deck for Celtics to prevent Luka from winning championship.

Luka will still win championship. Than Lebron 3peats. No American led team will ever win a championship after that.

GetUp had a set on this if i'm not mistaken...they focused on how it was not too long ago Celtics were looking to blow up everything in splitting Tatum/Brown, and Stevens then being able to turn it all around over the last couple seasons by turning Smart into KP + picks, and those same picks landing Jrue.

Stevens deserves the credit for this current team and wouldnt be surprised if others follow suit on their build

The Celtics were never close to splitting up the Jays. They would have done it to get AD but Davis shut that down.

Ainge also hired Stevens in the first place. If they win he deserves an honorary ring.

I think Smart believing he was part of a Big 3 with Jaylen and Jayson was part of the problem. Brad saw that and was able to turn Smart into Jrue Holiday, who is arguably the better defender, while being able to play 3rd-4th-5th fiddle. Sure, Smart gave you some playmaking on offense, but with Jaylen and Jayson hitting their prime years, they're expected to become the playmakers themselves, which made Smart expendable.

To disagree a little bit remember that the original trade had Brogdon in Smart's place. Stevens didn't anticipate Holiday coming loose, he was willing to give Smart up for KP because he saw the immense potential of the team with Porzingis. After the fact faced with a pissed off Brogdon Stevens saw the great opportunity with Holiday and took further advantage.

It's hard to tell which is better. Maybe Stevens is slightly better because he got Ime and now another coach that immediately did a great job. That's on top of savvy business moves and the Celtics have generally been in the NBA finals or ECF every season since he took over. Maybe Stevens edges it.

It doesnt have to be one of them getting ‘more’ credit than the other.

They both deserve credit. Thats all.

True. I have a feeling Brad would've dealt Smart at some point during the offseason. I feel like the writing was on the wall on how far we could get with Smart as a main piece of the team. Could be wrong, but that's how I saw it.
