There should not be an Olympic MVP
Seriously? I'm all for legitimate accolades in the NBA (excluding unimportant accolades like IST Tourney MVP or Conference Finals MVP).
Olympic team sports is literally the ultimate TEAM competition. You are representing your entire country. The only awards are the TEAM MEDALS.
Individual accolades in a TEAM OLYMPIC sport is really bad in my opinion and dampens the core concept of team olympic competition.
BTW, LeBron is my guy, so I am not biased or anything.

Re: There should not be an Olympic MVP
I agree, it's dumb.
Americans already look uncouth as **** in the Olympics with all their theatrics and their shouting and screaming and flopping.
Why don't americans understand what the rest of the world gets? You be humble when representing not only yourself, not only your country, but the Olympic ideals?
You think those ancient greeks wrestled in the nude so that you can shimmy down the court? No way Hussein.

To you. It only seems weird because the Olympics is full of sports where teamwork as such isn't a thing.

Re: There should not be an Olympic MVP
It's hard to have that perspective when all we ever debate is which player mattered more or did the best in a series or whatever. Basketball is a team sport with individualized Fandom clearly. Mvps are fine, gives up shit to gloat about or argue against lol.

OP puts too much value on these silly awards.

Re: There should not be an Olympic MVP
You know what I was thinking... I'll take it a step beyond that. There shouldn't be 5 on 5 basketball in the olympics.
Slam dunk contest... would be cool.
Shooting / skill contest... would be cool.
3v3, 1v1, ok. But I don't understand why they have sports in there that have their own professional leagues like... soccer, golf, basketball, hockey (not in summer obv,) baseball...
The North American sports all play seeded series to see which team is better because you need that to actually know. There isn't enough time for that to happen in the Olympics. They could put like the top US team vs the top teams of various other countries and do series, but to just pick a roster of the best players from your country is pretty weird shit, imo. It seems to make sense, but if you think about it, it is kinda sus.
IT CAME TO ME, what can I say.

Why weren't threads like this being made after Durant won FIBA MVP in the last Olympics?
Hmm, I wonder why.

Agreed. The award obviously exists to placate hyperindividualist Americans who need to have "the guy" even in a team sport.

I think it's a fine award if they didn't give it to someone from Team USA. Jokic honestly deserved that even though Serbia only won bronze. Giving it to the best player on a team that has a better bench than any starting 5 in the Olympics is wild.

39 year old LeBron shut him down.

Jokic was 7/11 inside the paint just missed his open looks from 3. I don't think he was shut down at all. Serbia just couldn't make any 3s in that last quarter and got barraged on the other end.
Jokic had the best individual statistical performance out of any player in these Olympics and led his team in every category (pts, ast, reb, stls, blks, efficiency). Hate that they gave it to the most stacked team where there was no 1 true "MVP".

False. Didn't read the rest. You're being disingenuous or forgetful.
