Re: What is your criteria for the MVP award?
The player that contributed most to their respective team's wins. While winning at least 45 games.

Re: What is your criteria for the MVP award?
the best player, the player that i would pick first if i were to start a team from scratch at the beginning of the year.
i.e. tim duncan every year by a large margin
(although if garnett steps it up, he could win)
no one else has a shot

Which is why 75% of MVPs in the last 20 years have been white, right?

Yes, I understand that. I'm saying that isn't a very impressive number because that barely puts your team in the top 10.

If the Lakers won 45 games, and kobe averaged 32/5/4 this year, he would get MVP, no?

The MVP award should go to the player with the best overall stats whose team made it to the playoffs mainly because of them.

No. Go look up Kobe's 2005-2006 numbers.

No. He did better than that in 2005-06 and didn't get it. 45 wins, 35.4/5.3/4.5.

Re: What is your criteria for the MVP award?
In my opinion you cant be the MOST VALUABLE PLAYER in the league when your team has no real value in terms of competitiveness and a real title shot. If your team is no real threat... then what is your value really?
Basketball is a team game so team success is more important then individual success. You cant just base MVP on a player cuz his team sucks and would suck worst with out him. If that

Re: What is your criteria for the MVP award?
Only way Kobe gets MVP is if he gets his team 50+ wins (al la Iverson in 2001). Kobe winning MVP now is like McGrady winning the award in his Orlando days (which means it won't happen).

No. Go look up what I said again, THIS YEAR. That was in the past, but if he did it this year, then he would get MVP, at least my vote.

Why would it matter that it is this year? How is this year so different from that year?

If LA wins 50+ games (which they were on pace to do so last year before injuries) and Kobe leads the league in scoring, and continues to play defense the way he has in this early season...he easily wins the MVP.
30 PPG, 7.6 RPG, 5.0 APG, 2.8 SPG, 1.2 BPG on 50% shooting...so far in 5 games.
