Other words to use besides "is"?
I'm writing a report for my english class and the teacher wants us to use better verbs.
Ex sentence - Basketball is played with five players.

reconstruct the sentence instead of trying to swap verbs
invest five or ten dollars in an older edition collegiate writing handbook. there are several to be had for next to nothing off amazon and b&n online.
that should solve any problem u will encounter in highschool and set u up for success in college
u could also ask ish everytime u have to write a paper.
decision is urs

The teacher wants you to omit the "is" and write things like, "Five players play basketball".
