Brazilian Soccer Star Romario retires
the hero of the 1994 World Cup for Brazil, and the 1994 FIFA world player of the year has retired
http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news;_yl...v=ap&type=lgns
he claimed to have scored 1000 goals, apparently he intentionally miscounted to boost his total. Fifa looked into it and took off 71 of his goals, so his final total was 929 goals. Pele was the only player to score 1000 goals i believe.. this is probably why Romario was clinging on for the past few years, he wanted to somehow crack the 1000 goal barrier

other than 94' i think the only reason Brazilians consider him great is due to his goals...
but that world cup in 94' was pretty special and he was the reason they won it

Very True.
I think right now the best 2 players in the World are Lionel Messi and Christiano Ronaldo.

Never really knew much about Romario except that he played for Brazil and was pretty damn good.
Cheers to another great player!

Dunking on everybody in the park
Re: Brazilian Soccer Star Romario retires
I was at the 1994 Brazil/Netherlands WC quarterfinal match in Dallas. (Brazil won 3-2). Romario was a beast. He scored a goal, was offsides on another brazil goal (but argued that he wasn't participating in the play )

He had a great cup in '94. I hope it comes back to the US in the next 20 years.
